WinterH Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 (edited) Hi everyone... I've found a MSSFFB 2 + FS FSX Gold Edition DVD together for sale only at 48.5 $. I currently use Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and generally happy with it. But FFB2 seem to have quite a reputation and FFB feature seems like very helpful on helicopters and prop fighters. It looks like a bargain even if I get it only as backup. How does MS FFB2 compare to Ext 3D, aside from force feedback? I have a peculiar need with joysticks, part of the reason why I like Logitech Extreme 3D. I am a lefty and since simulation career day 1 about 20 years ago I've always used my left hand for stick :D. Logitech is quite OK in left hand, can anyone tell me how ambidextrous Sidewinder force feedback 2 feels? :) (part of the reason why I don't have one of fancy HOTAS setups, since I'd have no use with them unless I change my stick hand habit of 2 decades :P) Edited July 23, 2014 by WinterH Fixing typo Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script
gavagai Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 It's a great joystick. I can't compare it to the Logitech, but I can't imagine flying prop sims without ffb. In my left hand it doesn't feel so great. The buttons and throttle on the base of the joystick are on the left side, too, so you can't reach them if you hold the joystick with your left hand. There are ways to make the stick left handed, though: http://riseofflight.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=350&t=17845&start=10 P-51D | Fw 190D-9 | Bf 109K-4 | Spitfire Mk IX | P-47D | WW2 assets pack | F-86 | Mig-15 | Mig-21 | Mirage 2000C | A-10C II | F-5E | F-16 | F/A-18 | Ka-50 | Combined Arms | FC3 | Nevada | Normandy | Straight of Hormuz | Syria
roob Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 It's the best. But it kind of depends on what you are playing. It is essential for the Ka-50. And I wouldn't use it if you are left handed... My DCS stream [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Past broadcasts, Highlights Currently too much to do... But watch and (maybe) learn something :)
aeliusg Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 If it works well and doesn't look too bad, this is a bargain even without FSX. FFB means you can physically trim the stick in helicopters, feel the stall in the P-51, trim and feel the stall in the A-10... stuff you can't do even with the most expensive spring-tensioned sticks. Left hand is a no-go however, due to the thumb rest on the left side of the stick, but it's not too late to do things "properly" even after 20 years ;).
WinterH Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 I think I'll give it a go :). Buttons are on the left side for Logitech too, and I've been managing OK with it. Only thing giving me a question mark is thumb rest looks a bit too beefy on Sidewinder, I'll get to see the stick before I buy anyway. Even if I decide that I don't like it, I can still sell it and get to keep the FSX :D Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script
WinterH Posted July 26, 2014 Author Posted July 26, 2014 Ok, for any potential future lefties that may ask this same question : Stick itself does feel pretty good in hand actually, I think I can say better than Legitech Extreme 3D Pro. But throttle and 4 extra buttons are significantly harder to reach, nothing you can't get used though. First test with P-51... Wow... no contest! :D Yet to test it with Ka-50 but I'm very eager to do so. With F-86 it didn't feel it mattered much though.
