So I was practicing landing in the Sabre last night.. Take off from one airport, fly to the other, land and return to the first one...

The approach was looking good, lined her up, reduced speed, brakes on, flaps down, descent nice and gradual... Excellent! Best approach I have ever made.. Pull back on the stick and beautiful flare.. (Pretty pleased with myself right about then) Gently set her down on the pavement with a grin on my face...

And all kinds of screeching and sparks and grating noises ensue..

DAMMITT:mad:

I forgot to put the landing gear down... Hosed the best approach I have ever performed... <sigh>

I will say though that it was smooth enough that there was little to no damage to the plane once it came to rest... I guess I can take some solace in that...

No gear down and throttle on idle may result in landing such as your. The plane is just trying to say something like "hey buddy, you're on idle but your main gear is not down ... are you trying to land or what ?"

It means throttle is (almost) idle while the landing gear is up.

Well THAT would have been awesome information to have last night... (That is what happens when you don't read the manual and just jump right in...)

We will file that one away for further reference..

Thank you for the clarification..

I only have ever done a wheels up landing once... best approach I ever done.... I even recorded it...

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Got shot by AAA and couldnt lower the main gear so I had to land with nose wheel down but unlocked. Not the best situation but somehow worked out .

The manual for the F-86E states one should pull the "landing gear emergency release handle".... does anyone know where this thing hides?. It is also described here -> Utility hydraulic system (which is obviously for the F-86F).
