Romans5.8 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Hey all! I'm thinking about adding the Huey to my collection. But at $50, I have a few questions. 1) How is the variety of the missions? I'm thinking about getting into a helicopter (I've only done fixed wing, but rotorcraft on FSX). But I've done enough finding, targeting, and blowing up stuff with the A-10. Are there lots of other missions? 2) CASEVAC/MEDEVAC, is there a good amount of that? Does that even exist? Honestly, my ideal Huey mission lineup would include deploying soldiers into a hot LZ and evacuating wounded from combat to hospitals. That's what the Huey did well in Vietnam and I think it would be a lot more fun than just blowing up tanks. Wouldn't it be something if we had 100's of FPS players on the ground operating the tanks and engaging in small arms combat on the ground, hauled back to hospitals to be respawned and deployed by helicopter. And supported by fixed wing aircraft. I actually enjoy FPS's, but simplified arcade flight models make it annoying.

Making DCS and Arma 3 Compatable with each other. so that if you want to fly the planes, you run DCS so you get the realisim while the guys running on the ground get their own Realisim  Can only dream tho
Cibit Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Plenty of missions out there for the huey. Wolle has some great ones including a great campaign and some other very talented mission makers making huey ones. If you get it then you will not be disappointed:) i5 8600k@5.2Ghz, Asus Prime A Z370, 32Gb DDR4 3000, GTX1080 SC, Oculus Rift CV1, Modded TM Warthog Modded X52 Collective, Jetseat, W10 Pro 64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Adding JTAC Guide //My Vid's//229th AHB
scrtagnt69 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 (edited) Like Cibit said there are many great missions and full campaign/ops,, and mods that gifted folks have blessed us with. Bonus is the capability to create your own missions ranging from free flight to HEMS/MEDEVAC all the way to making gun runs and wreaking havoc on the enemy as your cannons glow red from the insane amount of firepower you or your crew can deliver , to massive online ops with diehard rotor heads. IFR/VFR navigation is fully operational and very simple to use. With many tutorials available on YT. Your getting on board at a good time with all the kinks worked out of the flight model , us poor souls who have been flying since the beta release in the first quarter of 2013 have experienced death many times over..current FM is much more user friendly. I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed , get the Huey and beat the air into submission. See ya out there ! " There are two kinds of pilots.. Those who flew the Huey and Those who wish they did " Edited August 19, 2014 by scrtagnt69
Need-To-Know Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I agree with my colleagues above. I put off buying the Huey thinking it would be boring. Now it is all I fly. I will say it takes a little imagination - but I have plenty. Like imagining you have troops loaded. Or guys running up with stretchers. But all in all a good bit of fun. I used to get mad when it would plummet out of the sky for no apparent reason. But I have learned what to listen and watch for to avoid it. Also like scrtagnt69 says - use navigation as one of the challenges to make it more enjoyable. It can be a bit hard using landmarks for navigation in the current iteration of DCS's map but might change in the future. Knowing once you get good at flying it you have something that not all players on the multiplayer servers can fly (or really TO & Land). Flaming Cliffs guys will (should) marvel at your talents. :) Fight to fly, fly to fight, fight to win. Callsign: Need Shu-Ha-Ri

Flaming Cliffs guys will (should) marvel at your talents. :) That's my dream flight sim, guys running up with stretchers. I mean EVERY sim/game is about blowing stuff up. But for once it would be a blast to be the MEDEVAC/CASEVAC guy, so it's exciting to know those missions exist. Just imagine, Arma with Americas Army style wounds (aka, if you get hurt, you're hurt. If you bleed, someone needs to stop it. If you die, you're dead). So we'd need to haul guys off the battlefield before they could return to combat. Dead is dead, critically wounded is unplayable until you get to a hospital (and then someone has to get you back to combat!) etc. Would provide a lot more strategy than just having the most guys with a high K/D ratio.
Rabbit_ Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I also agree with others. UH-1 has great amount of missions and very nice campaign. It's soooo satisfying to gently put it right on the spot. UH-1 and Mi-8 are top heli sims out there IMO. Both with campaigns and a lot of fun only flying them. Guys in Belsimtek know their magic! If You want to switch to helicopters, these are must have. But one thing is for sure....forget about seeing soldiers getting to chopper or getting out. You will not see them loaded or anything like it. Like Need-to-know said, it takes some imagination to enjoy it. :-D
Romans5.8 Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 Thanks for the thoughts guys! I guess I will pull the trigger! I would have already. But evident I can't pay with PayPal, it says "PayPal returned an error" on the payment website. And my wallet is ALL THE WAY in the other room! Sheesh! Hehehe.

Romans5.8 Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 Shame on you for having to look up your credit card number! ;) Exactly! Sheesh! That's why I use PayPal. I just have to login and pay! I'm tellin' ya. It's enough to make ya not wanna buy it! :smilewink: (Just kidding). Seriously though, wonder why the PayPal feature isn't working. But, a quick google search revealed a plethora of topics related to "SagePay", the provider DCS uses, and it not working with PayPal (or not working at all).
cichlidfan Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Since you have found those threads then you probably know as much as anyone around here. I've used paypal for everything I have bought from ED for two to three years now, with no problems. msalama Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=107303 The above is an excellent medevac script/mod, been using it since it first came out and it works great.
