Dachs Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Hi, here is a way to move and resize the default kneeboard. I'm by no means an expert in this editing thing, so there may very well be smarter ways to do it, but here goes: Go to \DCS World\Scripts\Aircrafts\_Common\Cockpit Here you will have to edit line 29 in ViewportHandling.lua where it says dedicated_viewport = {default_x,default_y,default_width,default_height} this controls the x/y position and width/height of kneeboard Eg. dedicated_viewport = {0,0,562,750} will place the kneeboard in the top-left corner, with a dimension of 562 x 750 pixels. On my SoftTH T-screen setup I use {2250,1150,562,750} wich places the kneeboard on the left side of my lower monitor. This is with a resolution of 5900x1918 3 System: Asus z270 A Prime, Intel i7-7700K 4.8GHz, 32GB DDR4, RTX2080, Samsung 500GB 850 EVO SSD. Valve Index VR, TM Warthog Throttle & Grip, Virpil MongoosT-50CM2 base, TM TPDR Rudders. OS: Win10 Home
NeilWillis Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Excellent, I have been looking for a solution to the kneeboard placement conundrum for ages. Top man!
Maverick263 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Very nice for my MFD Cougar Pack in Flaming Cliffs 3 :thumbup::thumbup: thank you
GregP Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Nice find, thanks! I too have been searching for a way to resize the kneeboard for a while.
Home Fries Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 You can place your kneeboard using the monitor lua files. Copy the monitor lua file you use from DCS World\Config\MonitorSetup (you can tell which one it is from the Monitors entry on the Options menu) and paste it in C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\DCS\Config\MonitorSetup folder. Then add the following lines: KNEEBOARD = { x = 2418; y = 491; width = 526; height = 789; } You can put this at the base level just underneath the Viewports or UIMainView section. -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
GregP Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Home Fries, I think you're talking about a different thing than OP: he means resizing/placing the KB to a specific location on a single screen, whereas the viewport option you provide only works for multiple monitors -- no?
Home Fries Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 You can still apply the kneeboard and MFDs to the confines of the viewport. Just put the coordinates within the viewport and it will still work. -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
Home Fries Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 I misspoke; it appears that the KNEEBOARD entry in the MonitorSetup lua is broken of late. It just so happened that where I placed the coordinates was where the default was in the first place. There used to be a way to set the kneeboard within MonitorSetup; hopefully somebody chimes in on how to enable this feature without adjusting core files. 1 -Home Fries My DCS Files and Skins My DCS TARGET Profile for Cougar or Warthog and MFDs F-14B LANTIRN Guide
sobe Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 (edited) Dachs I am running 2 screens with the second screen running Helios while flying the A-10C. The default kneeboard location (top right corner of second monitor) is covered up on the second screen with the Helios profile so I tried to use your method and edited the line with your suggested 0,0,562, 750, but now nothing appears. Am I supposed to add the Kneeboard location to the monitor setup also? I only edited the one line that you suggested. According to Home Fries, the monitor setup no longer works. Dachs Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 Hm, the only thing I can think of is, maybe your monitor arrangement in Windows could be the culprit? Where is your Helios monitor placed in relation to your game view monitor? Can you see the kneeboard when not running Helios? And, just to make sure, have you checked that your edit is correct, and no extra spaces have sneaked in, like in your post above? I haven't checked out the 'monitor setup' way to move kneeboard, so don't know about that one.. System: Asus z270 A Prime, Intel i7-7700K 4.8GHz, 32GB DDR4, RTX2080, Samsung 500GB 850 EVO SSD. sobe Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Dachs Of course when I tried it again-it worked. Thanks for your idea. BrassEm Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Thanks Dachs, Details in your first post got my KneeBoard location problem sorted. (Bottom right moved to top left across two monitors.) www.brass-em.com
fitness88 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Which format is to be used? dedicated_viewport = {default_0,default_0,default_562,default_750} OR: dedicated_viewport = {0,0,562,750} How do I get KB onto my second monitor? Thank you.

Fakum Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Thanks, not sure if that will do what I need to as I am using Helios Huey Profile that works fine when I press the Helios map button in 1.2, but it doesn't work with 1.5 or 2.0. Fakum Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 This is a real bummer! I was easily able to move my Kneeboard by editing the viewporthandling.lua, but it does NOT pass IC check. HELP! I need the kneeboard to find the FARPS and I can get it off of the Helios screen which obstructs the kneeboard,,, Windows 10 Pro - 64 Bit / ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming / AMD 7800X3D / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 64GB DDR5 6000 Ram / SSD M.2 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB / MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G / SteelSeries Arctis 7 Headset /LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600) / Track IR4 / Thrustmaster TPR Pendular Rudder Pedals / Virpil HOTAS VPC Constellation ALPHA-R & VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle
Zilch Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Sorry for the necropost, but I wanted to say thanks, anyway. This fixed a major problem I've had with multi monitors! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Zilch79's YouTube Channel:
sigzegv Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 Modifying Kneeboard size is very convenient because default kneeboard is really too small. But the trick on this post is detected as a mod, so not usable on protected servers, but I don't think changing kneeboard size is a cheat or an advantage... Is there a way to modify knneboard size without being detected as a mod ? (maybe on saved games files ? the trick about modifying monitor file doesn't work at all)
Costas_Ch Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 (edited) Why on earth this does not pass the integrity check? ED has really to fix the IC approach/details. This includes also the Helios profiles. Edited November 27, 2023 by Costas_Ch
