Take a look at this screen capture of Notepad++ and the Meinit.xml file.

29300.jpg

So what I did, was add a line under <Units>-<CarComplex>

Just follow the same syntax as the other lines. When choosing a CLSID, do a search to make sure there is not conflict.

As you can see, I named mine Test1. Under Test1, is the list of units in it. Look at the other entries and follow the syntax. To figure out what CLSID and name to use for the units you wish to add, look under <Units>-<Cars>.

Then you need to add the complex unit, to the country you wish it to be for. Look at my screen capture to see how I did that.

Its all very simple.

PS. I have tried many ways to try and get a complex unit with static object, no go. Also ships are a no go. The only thing that I could get to work was normal ground units. So anything thats under <Units>-<Cars> that isnt categorized as a Static Object.

How can I get Notepad++, and what exactly it enables to do?

Notepad++ is an XML editor. So you dont need to scroll through all the lines of code, you can collapse areas. It also color codes things, and it allows you to see if you made a syntax error.

Pilotasso - Looks a nice editor. Last few years, I've been using something called TextPad, similar language sensitivity features but not so many as Notepad++ so I may give it a try.....

You'll notice too while in there, there is a S300V site defined, but not assigned to any country. I tried using it, and the models look good. But the SA12B doesnt seem to perform as well as the SA10 does.

And as far as what you can edit..... well just copy the original and experiment like hell, that how I found out this bit.

Another question:

Will the server override the XML over each one of the clients? This wont probably work unless the server has adopted any MOD's on its own XML right?

Have you ever seen anybody with a LOPE'ed loadout in a server?

I think these XML files can only define what to show in the loading screen and what to load in the 3D world but it doesnt have the power to change any of its functional atributes. SO if a particular unit is not coded into the EXE properly it wont probably function in the game.

Be careful with editing the meinit.xml. Adding to many new vehicle groups will make Lock On CTD. Me and my sqn mate tried adding different battalions (heavy armored, hq, field artillery, engineer etc.) but after adding a certain number we both got CTDs. However this was with version 1.11. Hopefully it works with the new patch.

I have been tinkering with the meinit.xml file last night. This is what I have been able to do:

1. Give Su-33 ability to land on CVN-70

2. Given F/A-18A, F/A-18C, S-3B, E-3C, F-14A ability to land on Kuznetsov

3. Given Su-25TM ability to land on both carrier types

Ok - Can I use the same logic to:

1. Assign CVN-70 to say Spain?

2. Assign Kuznetsov to Ukraine?

3. Assign Su-33 to Ukraine?

Thanks in advance

can i use notepad++ to merge two meinit.xml files? for example the FPS tweak for 1.12a and the Supermod10 by Britgliderpilot both have replacement meinit files so one will overwite the other.

If not merge then a search and compare function to isolate the changes compared to the original 1.12a meinit file. Then i can get everything into one file.

Check this out. I found a program that scans the .xml files and shows the differences between the two so you can keep the parts you want from each one. Still working on changing things. Turns out there is a lot of blank lines between stuff and it makes the file count difference look worse than it really is. Im about 90% done with what I think is going to be the meinit file that will have the best of both mods. ( of course there are other folders like view.lua and server.lua etc, that have a few changes in them)

Here is a link to the program.

http://www.a7soft.com/

It is free trial for 30 days then you have to buy for $30 if you want to still use it. So far i havent been able to make the "insert and replace" function work and i have a support e-mail in to them about it. For the time being, Im using the notepad++ to copy and paste the differences that the ExamXML program finds.
