Norcat Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Hi all, first post ever. ;) Got the amazing Mig-21 for my bday and couldn't be happier. Finally an old school fighter sim that is as real as it gets. Absolutely love it! I am having a bit of trouble with ARC navigation though. Here are the snags 1. ARC Needle tail points to station 2. Needle will not indicate station passage I have done the ARC training a handful of times and verified my position with dead reckoning along the three bodies of water. I have selected beacon 5 and reset beacon 3 a couple of times and recieve a good morse code each time but only after cycling will it note station passage. If I don't select station 5 it will never show passage at 3 and I'll arrive at the mountains. (I always zoom in so I can't see outside, more fun) Thinking that it is a bug In the sim. I have also tried flying basic NDB rules, desired to the head plus some and tail to desired to the tail plus some. The needle has frozen and remained fixed at 12o'clock during a few of those turns and presents only jerky motion of a few degrees afterward. So....hope someone has the answers. P.s Leatherneck, I have wanted to be a fighter pilot since I was three. Didn't get the chance, played in the infantry for a while then got out to chase airplanes. Worked hard and fly a G200 for a living now, but still turn into a little kid with excitement each time I see a fighter, especially old school machines. Thank you for making the most amazing Mig. I feel like I am in the 21 each time I fly her. Finally I am a fighter pilot!!!! LOL LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sel94 Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Hello, and welcome to the DCS forums! For your problems, I would recommend making sure the game is up to date by running Start Menu > All Programs > Eagle Dynamics > DCS World > Update DCS World. The first problem was dealt with in a past update, where they inverted the needle to point correctly. The second problem is known, and might have been fixed in the most recent update(but I haven't played much of the new version yet so I don't know).
Norcat Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 Super!! Thanks Sel94. i'll check it out when I get back to the hangar in a few days.....basement iMac. Haha ;) Really appreciate the fast reply too. Can't wait to go mig'ing again.
paleohayduke Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I am pretty sure I did everything as the manual and the training mission instructed and have the same issue. I use RSBN for everything because of it. Guess I am going to try using them with the new patch.
Spectrum Legacy Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Flew the ARC training yesterday after finishing the manual (nice read btw) with the same result (using latest steam build, which should be u3). ARC needle on NPP got "stuck" when I matched my heading with it. Sometimes it sticks and won't move for quite some time though. What I did was to press the ARC channel button I was heading to once in a while, as each button press resets the needle to 45° and it will start point to the beacon again (until it becomes stuck again). Someone else suggested in different thread that turning to the left will do the trick as well. Both are only temporary solutions though. Sent from my pComputer using Keyboard
Aginor Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I remember having the same bug a few times. Can't tell what triggers it, though. :( DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
flashben Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Had a similar problem. What fixed it for me was turning ARC off and on again on the right panel.
skypirate Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I'll join the party here with the same issue. Flew the ARK training and although all switches were correctly configured, I flew allover the place trying to find the mystical ARK with no success... The ARK needle sticks to one direction and stays there until out of range. Turned around, flew in the direction of the needle, same story... Since others have it, there is some issue. Perhaps worth further checking [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Regards!
PiedDroit Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) Hello, I had similar problems with the ARC (during the training I had to reset the thing several times). I also noted something during a mission of the campaing (the one where you need to ferry from Krymsk to Kutaisi), I don't know if it's related: At first I though the ARC wasn't working since the needle was always pointing up, until I started a left turn and then the needle started to move to the right. But as soon as I was going right, the needle would go no further than straight forward direction. I don't know if this helps finding the problem, here another way to describe what I saw: - Station is on the right, needle points to the right. - begin right turn, the needle still point to the correct azimuth - at a point where the aircraft is aligned with the station, the needle stops moving and gets stuck pointing up. EDIT: reproduced: - open mission editor - setup a MiG with first waypoint pointing to a station (example: Kutaisi airbase, 3/I-4) - start flying, setup ARC as above, flip ARC/RSBN switch to ARC - make left and right turns and watch the needle getting stuck when the station is on the left. If you make a full 360° turn right, the needle goes to its correct position when aligned with the radial, station directly behind own ship. On full 360° left turn the needle was always good. Wild guess: bug on negative ARC relative azimuth :D Edited October 19, 2014 by PiedDroit
R3TR0 Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Hi, there is there any update on this issue yet? My problem is with the ARC in the tutorial, works fine for the first (2/1 channel 3), then i put in (2/1 channel 5) and it resets to the 45 then sets itself on the old (Chanel 3, or very close too) coordinates and stays there pointing at the nose, no matter how i turn. I can reset and get it to show correct direction but I have to switch to RSBN and back to ARC (left panel, wait for it to re-localize at 45) several times. I cant confirm if this is the case outside of the tutorial, not had time to check.... sorry. Oh on Steam version of DCS (fairly new to the game only 27hours logged, loving it..... please more cold war aircraft.... Blackburn Buccaneer ahem!
