1) The AI MiG-21 seems to use a different afterburner effect.

2) AI MiG doesn't need to keep itself pointed towards the target when using the Grom.

Track Download

3) AI MiG only fires S-5 rockets in pairs from one launcher instead of the proper salvos from each launcher

Track Download

4) AI MiG can drop bombs individually instead of in pairs when using the bombing command. AI also drops bombs in level flight rather than diving onto targets.

Track Download

5) More roles for the MiG could be added like Anti-Ship Strike with the Grom or Runway Attack with the BetAB-500

Edit:

6) Can't seem to get the AI to use its guns or the UPK-23 gunpods on ground targets

7) Is it also possible to have a special option to disable writing SARPP output to my hard drive?

Right, that's not a bug, just a feature for more optimisation.

Just an idea, haven´t tested it, but when you just don´t turn it on in the cockpit maybe it doesn´t write anything on the hard drive ?

No that makes no sense because LODs exist. There's no reason to make the afterburner effect different up close when the rest of the model is visually identical to a player MiG.

Yup, if you leave it off, it doesn't write tracks.

No you get blank 0 byte files. Besides, if you play a mission where you don't start on the ramp the switch is turned on.

I've also have some AI Mig 21 problems. Two to be exact.

AI is so dumb with this aircraft that in a ground attack run went straight to a mountain side. :P

The other AI fellows, because they use a lot of AF, just went bingo really fast (or maybe they don't use the fuel tanks as it should) and they had to eject.

The third fellow AI pilot, just tried to fight one Mig-15 and was shot down. :P

Oh well... Welcome to DCS beta immersion.

If there were no the reason we would have this effect in the game on all of 21's. You confuse LODs for the model and the afterburner effect. The effect seems to be optimized harder than the model.

Most things concerning AI is beyond our power. I'll see if ED can improve some of these features. No promises.

Power through superb knowledge, training and teamwork.

I do not know why the MiG-21 AI sometimes refuses to attack ground targets, but it starts to get really annoying. I have set up a CAS mission and gave them a proper loadout, but they either turn away from the target or they go RTB instantly after mission start.

In other missions the Mig-21 AI does not have these problems, even when the setup is the same. So this looks very much like a bug.

Edit: Maybe this bug occurs, when you change the nationality of a target, even when it belongs to the same coalition. Also the bug remains, even when you delete the old units and create new units. In that case you have to create a whole new mission from the scratch.

It seems like this is even a general bug, so it can also occurs to other aircraft. So please excuse me, if this bug is not caused by the MiG-21 in particular. Anyway this bug needs to be fixed and I hope it will get redirected to ED, if it turns out that this is not caused by the MiG-21 itself.

You can download the bugged mission here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/de/files/myfiles/

In that mission you will find a MiG-21 of the red coalition and ground radar of the blue coalition. The MiG has a CAS-task to destroy the radar, but it ignores it. Even if you delete both units and set them up again, the bug will still occur.

In case you wonder how to recreate this bug: Set up a CAS-mission and set a "Hawk ... MPQ-55" radar of a nation like Bahrain as a target for that aircraft. Then everything will work perfectly and the MiG will attack it. However, if you change the nation of that radar group to USA and set it to a patriot radar (which is not available to Bahrain), then the bug will occur. It will corrupt your whole mission file in a way that you cannot use that file any more, if you want to use CAS-missions.

I hope my bug-report will help to prevent frustrations for other users. :)
