I would greatly appreciate it if someone could describe the control inputs required to perform the cobra in the SU-27 with PFM.

At what speed do you enter the maneuver? How hard do you pull the stick. What should the throttle be set to, idle? When do you stop pulling on the stick? How do you exit the maneuver? Any other info?

Thanks in advance.

No offense intended, but this was my method to finding specific results to your question.

Google : How to perform Cobra maneuver.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pugachev's_Cobra

There is no script on how to perform it, there is parameters that will give you a guideline.

This + your personal "feeling" so to say will result into you doing a "more or less" proper cobra maneuver.

Ah Wikipedia. Sometimes I wonder if there is anything that is not on Wikipedia...

Thanks, I'll try that tonight.

Don't forget to get in "Direct Control Mode" with "S" in the Su-27 before trying that, otherwise it will not work!

Would be a cool publicity stunt for DCS if they got Pugachev to fly the cobra on a DCS simulator and post the track and video:music_whistling:

No offense, but yes, there is a script. Someone out there knows it, and eventually someone will post it.

In the digital world of sims no doubt there is... I was aiming to say "practice makes perfect". If the conditions vary for the same input, the results may vary :)

I've gotten the maneuver down pretty well. I usually do the following:

1.) Transition to a somewhat level flight path (doesn't have to be perfect)

2.) get to about 450 km/h

3.) when ready to perform the maneuver, press the 's' key on your keyboard, let your nose start to fall ever so slightly

4.) when nose has fallen a little (not a lot!) pull straight back all the way to the aft position

5.) when you get to the top of the maneuver and start actually pitching backwards, press the 's' key again IMMEDIATELY, increase to full burner, let the nose fall back down, and transition back to level flight.

I've performed the maneuver many times. It takes a little practice, but it's easy most of the time depending on your speed.

Edit. I've created an in-cockpit video of me performing the maneuver. I would have added the external view as well, but unfortunately it didn't record.

So this is for an Su-27 UB, taken from a passenger account, and at best a semi-reliable source, but for what it's worth:

220 kts at 10,000 ft 85% throttle

Fast pull back all the way on the stick, nose up to 90 deg (UB max pitch is lower than single seater due to different center of gravity)

Nose down to recover, increase throttle (100% mil or AB not specified), 83 kts speed at end of maneuver.

In metric that'd be roughly

entry at 440-450 km/h, 3000 m alt

and about 170 km/h airspeed at the finish.

No indications in account of whether these were IAS or TAS.

Up to 130 degrees pitch was mentioned as normal for the single seat Su-27 under similar conditions.

Fuel load was not mentioned, but it was the last thing they did before landing after a 1 hr flight with a lot of aerobatics, so probably not all that much.

Also no mention of needing to turn off the pitch limiter, as I said, semi-reliable or perhaps merely incomplete source.

Callsign "Auger". It could mean to predict the future or a tool for boring large holes.

I combine the two by predictably boring large holes in the ground with my plane.

Yes

Got the new sounds, Mfds all that but no cobra.

What is exactly the name of the action in the keyboard option?

BTW i imported my config keyborad and stick into dcs open beta do you think it can come from that?

Yeah. I had similar issues before with the unlock target command doing that. Just repair and re-assign your keys.
