fixen Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Quality parts. All good. You don't need a 850 watt powersupply though, but maybe you wan't sli? I run more or less the same build on a 550 watt powersupply
trooph Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Get some rubber pads for your screws for that Haf. I have the same case and itcan vibrate quite loud. Otherwise top notch build. :)
tintifaxl Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 As EDGE will bring new maps and as I think at a hefty price in storage, I would suggest a bigger SSD. Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
JayPee Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 (edited) Definitely get a >= 250GB SSD. Given that you plan on buying an unlocked CPU one can reasonably assume you intend to OC it. In that case I would strongly recommend the ASUS Maximus VII Z97 which is basically made to support all kinds of OC stuff natively via the BIOS. The non-gaming boards like the one you propose don't do that to the same extend or worst case, not at all. Price difference is peanuts. Last thing, about that RAM, see if you can get 8CL RAM. Yours are 9CL. An example is the Crucial Ballistix Tactical. Don't bother going higher than 1,600MHz though when running an i7. EDIT: Oh and I see you are spending quite some bucks on a high airflow case yet you want to watercool it? I'd suggest air cooling it so it makes less noise. (Watercoolers generally are loud.) Edited December 1, 2014 by JayPee i7 4790K: 4.8GHz, 1.328V (manual) MSI GTX 970: 1,504MHz core, 1.250V, 8GHz memory
agrasyuk Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Most of this is inline for what I have in mind for my dedicated flight PC. Personnaly I'm not really worried about 8cl vs 9cl RAM. From what I read difference is hard to notice. I don't see to many advantages in those closed loop water coolers however. IMHO the old and proven CM 212 + offers great performance at fraction of cost (and weight). Inside well vented case such as haf It will handle any overclock you can sustain on the chip you selected. While 120Gb drive will hold OS and DCS with all the modules and future maps (IIRC at over 20Gb a map) I think you cutting it a bit close. I'd put The money you save on cooler towards larger and faster SSD. Those Intel 730 drives look really compelling. Just purchased a 240Gb version of it in fact. Anton. My pit build thread . Deadman Posted December 1, 2014 Author Posted December 1, 2014 (edited) thanks for the input guys. I was thinking of adding one more GTX 970 later 3out side views then 2 MFCDs and the RWR inside. Hence the 850 power supply.or can I run them on less? I am not stuck on that case any other recommendations? I do want silent water cooling thought.( looks like air is still the way to go) sorry first answer this on the phone and did not see the other replies. I am looking at 2 SSD one for the OS and one for the Sim JayPee ther are at least three versions of ASUS Maximus VII Z97 any preference? agrasyuk Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 970 is much more efficient card, drawing only 150W. So in theory one could get away with 650W PSU to run a pair of them. With that I would not go lower then what you selected. It will provide good margin of reserve power, will keep your options open in future (ie if you suddenly land a pair of 980s ), costs not that much more then 750W unit and since its a gold efficient you will not waste to much power . CM Haf would not be my first choice of enclosure due to how it looks, but there is no argue it is a quality part and a very good value for the money. Down to personal preference. How were you planning to install a dual 140mm radiator in it however? Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
PureEvil Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 (edited) I do want silent water cooling thought.( looks like air is still the way to go) air is easier, but water is better. custom made water cooling is quieter then pc case full of fans. one good 120x2x60mm (120mm size rads are recommended by most guys, better fan selection of this size available on the market and easier to fit in) radiator should be enough to cool down both cpu (even with some overclocking, not extreme) and gpu. pumps have flow regulators nowadays, manual or automatic (pwm) (high or low flow doesn't really effect cooling much, fans do), just like fans do, so they can run very quiet. there are also external types of radiators with no fans at all, but you will still need at least 2 fans in the case, motherboard need some air flow too. my example here, was on the limited budget, so no water for gpu, maybe later i hope, that is why that rad is so huge lol my pc case don't have any windows, so looks doesn't matter much. don't forget about dust filters, something like this: http://www.demcifilter.com/p0105/HAF-922-Dust-Filter-Kit.aspx Edited December 2, 2014 by PureEvil STEAM asus p8z68-v gen3, 2600k@4,5ghz(w/c), 16gb, 1080ti(w/c), ch fighterstick/gvl224-4000-8, ch pro throttle, Oculus Rift CV1+Touch, thrustmaster tx
Deadman Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Quick question guys thanks for all the input so far. Witch is better one or two SSDs? The PC will be strictly for running the cockpit. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
cichlidfan Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 One. Two just doubles the chance of a drive failure while providing no significant benefit, for your purposes. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! piXel496 Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 (edited) You could buy a second SSD in a later stage. next year you will find one that is cheaper and/or faster and then seperate your sytem from your applications. Your powersupply is fine. Current is drawn from your power supply. So if you have a 850 watt PSU and your system only draws 350 watt it might even be more efficient then a 650 watt PSU and you have room for expansion. . Edited December 3, 2014 by piXel496 I would prefer the i7 above the second SSD... old stuff I made
fixen Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 (edited) The Asus z-97A is a fine motherboard even for overclocking. You might get a bit better results with a maximus hero for example, but i don't think it will matter much (i do have a maximus board but that wasnt a choice made based on logic but just because i wanted one). For SLI i would say the powersuply wattage is fine. You never want to run your PSU at 100%. Furthermore the 970 tends to overclock very well and that might be something you want to do and that increases wattage drawn. A 256GB ssd is faster than a 128GB ssd, but i don't think you will notice a difference. Since the price off the 128GB ssd's is almost a perfect 50% in comparison to the 256GB ssd's you could go double 128GB. Though i have a single 256GB and there isnt a real benefit to two 128GB ssd's without running RAID which isnt something you need for your purpose. Edited December 4, 2014 by fixen
