Jumbik Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Hello fellow pilots, could you please advise me what GC should I get for DCS? It will be mainly used for DCS so I do not mind performance in other games. I can get Asus matrix 780ti for the same price as a new Gigabyte G1 970. From few reviews I can see that 780ti is stronger in higly demanding games. The question is, how it is in DCS? Or how it can be in the new 2.0 version? :) I did not find any performance charts for DCS. :( Do, or do not, there is no try. -------------------------------------------------------- Sapphire Nitro+ Rx Vega 64, i7 4790K ... etc. etc.
*Rage* Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 780ti is better at higher resolutions. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 64th "Scorpions" Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 195.201.110.22
7rooper Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 If I may suggest you, I say to wait until DCS 2.0 Edge will be released. We are yet to see if the new gaphics engine will be more CPU than GPU dependant and might want to invest in a better processor or not much in a video card My rig specs: Intel Core i7 4770 @3.4Ghz // Corsair 16GB DDR3 // MoBo Asus Z87K // HDD 1TB 7200RPM // eVGA Nvidia GTX 760GT 2GB DDR5 // LG 3D 47" 1920x1080 // Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS // Saitek Combat Pro Pedals // Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack // PS3 Eye + FTNOIR
JulienBlanc Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 780ti is better at higher resolutions. This as a general guideline is true, yet the trade-offs seem a little unworthy to me. 970 has lower TDP, power consumption, in my experience: extremely cool, silent, and a scaringly good overclocker. This and it's a more "recent" model, which I hope will prove to be more reliable in terms of age and performance. This alone was enough for me personally to forget about the 780ti, and opt for future upgrade to SLI 970, which has proven to be very adequate. I've heared some rumors about a GTX 960 coming out. May be worth taking a look at it. It supposedly should strike the very sweet spot between price/performance. ( even more so than the 970. ) If I may suggest you, I say to wait until DCS 2.0 Edge will be released. We are yet to see if the new gaphics engine will be more CPU than GPU dependant and might want to invest in a better processor or not much in a video card I would agree to postponing as much as you can, but if we all waited for that to upgrade or buy a new PC we'd probably still be running pentiums dual core, with 4Gb ram? Overall find the bottleneck of your PC and try to work around that as a baseline. Upgrading GPU in a case where your CPU bottlenecks the entire system due to age, is an utter waste of funds. EDGE will have to run on todays technology, so either way upgrading will be beneficial. ( Additionally your PC will most likely not exclusively run DCS, think about all the other software or uses you have. Jumbik Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 Im running PC with intel 4790k which i have upgraded to few months back. It was a huge step up in DCS for me. I would really love if developers would release some kind of benchmark numbers for DCS 2.0 Currently I have amd 6970 g. card. So any upgrade will help. Im just curious how much of a difference would be to have 780ti vs 970. Do, or do not, there is no try. -------------------------------------------------------- Sapphire Nitro+ Rx Vega 64, i7 4790K ... etc. etc.
HiJack Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Let's hope DCS World 2.0 take advantage of current hardware better than the DCS World we have now. Anyway I think it's advisable to wait until 2.0 is released and do some tests.
