FlightControl Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Just want to make a note to the server community and in general. When you are running 1.2.14 update 1 on your server, and the client is still on 1.2.14 (no update), you'll see on the client very unexpected results... f.e. i had helicopters flying around which looked like Su-27s... After the client was also updated, these symptoms disappeared. Probably the latest update has internal memory structure changes that conflict with previous versions... Random Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Ah this explaims the problems I was having yesterday.
9.JG27 DavidRed Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 ^^yes, i was thinking exactly the same random!
uboats Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 the latest updates have Hawk integrated into DCS for prev 1.2.12 & 1.2.14, those who does not install hawk into coremods will see su-27 instead. Im not sure whether this results in that problem [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] My DCS Mods, Skins, Utilities and Scripts | Windows 10 | i7-4790K | GTX 980Ti Hybrid | 32GB RAM | 3TB SSD | | TM Warthog Stick | CH Pro Throttle + Pro Pedal | TIR5 Pro | TM MFD Cougar | Gun Camera: PrtScn |
NeilWillis Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 You should always run the same version of DCS World on both server and locally to avoid issues. They aren't meant to run in different versions, and will usually result in failure to connect errors at the very least.
Flagrum Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 You should always run the same version of DCS World on both server and locally to avoid issues. They aren't meant to run in different versions, and will usually result in failure to connect errors at the very least. And that should probably be checked and ensured by the software itself as we have atm no means to tell the version of a server in the server browser. Maybe still list servers that run a different version, but make them "greyed out" and not selectable, ED?
NeilWillis Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 That would be very useful, but in the meantime, just expect issues for a few days after an update is released. We update the RAF Air server promptly, but there is always a little lag time I guess. I guess the only course of action open to anyone post-update is to bear in mind that there could be issues in the short term, and live with it. Server administrators just need to be on the ball.
Winfield_Gold Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Server administrators just need to be on the ball. in the OP, the server admin is on the ball hence the problem lies with the client not updating when the server is updated.... in this case...the client needs to be on the ball
FlightControl Posted December 26, 2014 Author Posted December 26, 2014 If DCS would have a decent version control system, it would reject a client logging into a server with a different version number..., with a user friendly error message explaining what needs to be done... Maybe this is a fix that is useful ... Sven [TABLE][sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]| Join MOOSE community on: DISCORD  Website of the MOOSE LUA Framework. MOOSE framework Downloads. 104th_Maverick Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 Yeah this issue caused me a major head ache yesterday. Returned home from my xmas dinner with my family and was inundated with complaints about RWR not working and clients seeing everyone else as SU27, which led to a considerable amount of stress on my end trying to work out why this was happening. It was like Santa slapping me in the face for 2 hours! As Svend mentioned, having everyone update resolved these issues however it was far from ideal as we (I) did not want to update our server until we got some reports on the new updates stability... but we were forced to update it regardless to stop the above mentioned issues and constant server crashes that came with so many clients being on different versions. Ho... ho..... ho [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 104th Phoenix Wing Commander / Total Poser / Elitist / Hero / Chad www.104thPhoenix.com www.facebook.com/104thPhoenix My YouTube Channel
NeilWillis Posted December 26, 2014 Posted December 26, 2014 All valid of course Maverick. It is just a matter of everyone using multiplayer being aware of the pitfalls of trying to use a server. Some people update right away, others delay to see what the issues raised are. My feeling is that when it comes to multiplayer, the simplest way to deal with things is to update promptly, or to run a server with a specific version of DCS World, and notify users of when updates will be applied. Bottom line - users and servers should be using the same version of DCS World or there will be issues. How and when servers are updated is up to the administrator of course.
wolle Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 I have the latest version installed (.35605) but when I log on the DOW server (haven't tried any other ones), I still see all other aircraft as Su-27s:music_whistling: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Intel Core I7 4820K @4.3 GHz, Asus P9X79 motherboard, 16 GB RAM @ 933 MHz, NVidia GTX 1070 with 8 GB VRAM, Windows 10 Pro
Merlin-27 Posted December 27, 2014 Posted December 27, 2014 Warning on 1.2.14 Update 1 for multi player Yea, same headaches here even though I felt I was "on the ball." Server was updated the day of the official release and the specific version number is included in the server description... Then the reports came flooding in about Su-27s invading the WWII server. Oh joy to the DCS:World. I'm actually happy to hear it is simply a version mismatch and not a mission file corruption of some sort but I do agree there should be some type of revision check at the client before joining a server.
