rpayne88 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 So I just tried landing. I managed to get the aircraft down began to brake using airbrakes for about the first three seconds of my roll, then wheel brakes. Below 100KIAS, it started to skid. I tried to counteract the skidding with NWS and opposite rudder, yet it continued to skid and started to roll. I managed to start a fire and kill the pilot while I was shutting down the aircraft. What am I doing wrong?
SFC Tako Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) It IS skiddish, you gotta touch down at the very beginning of the runway and let things cool down by themselves without you braking (cause that's when all hell breaks loose). Just touch down at slowest possible speed (come in at very conservative angle with good distance too) and use very light corrections on the nosewheel all the way along the runway. When under 50knots you can start braking...gently ;) Go to 09:00 on my vid, there you can see me landing. I'm quite new to this aircraft myself so I ain't no expert but I get her down without exploding. Semi-Pro can land! I believe I was braking pretty early in this one but I know better now :) Edited January 8, 2015 by SFC Tako My Semi-Pro Youtube Channel
Zeke Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Yea, don't use the brakes to early. They also say to raise the flaps immediately to help slow down.
Filament Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 As one who watched hundreds of F-86 landings by the ROKAF from the flight line, when I was stationed in Korea (they had the F-86's - we had F-4's at the time)... ...they used aero-braking. A LOT. The nose wheel would stay up at least a 3rd of the ground roll, or so. That's 'real world.' ;)

f86enthusiast Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Very modest brake usage with no NWS usage until at least below 60ish kts has worked well for me. A small wheel base and primitive NWS steering system would have been difficult on dry pavement, but hell on anything such as rain or snow. With the primitive nature of the jet, it lacks antiskid protection you would have on say the A-10, or F-15C making brake application that much more gentle. Aggressiveness was a fundamental to success in air-to-air combat and if you ever caught a fighter pilot in a defensive mood you had him licked before you started shooting. — Captain David McCampbell, USN, leading U.S. Navy ace in WWII

It feels to me like the rear gear is to far behind the center of mass, forcing the nose down on touchdown. Time to go practice! Shahdoh Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 If using Toe brakes on rudder peddles, take a look at these settings and see if they help: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130129 If using keyboard or button presses, try pulsing (on - off repeatedly) instead of pressing and holding.
Zeke Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Yes, they do indeed help. I've been using your settings since I found it. No problems here using toe brakes now.
P3CFE Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Thanks Shahdoh, Brakes work great now, with full brakes the wheels tend to block but don't, so..max braking power possible. Almost to easy now, in comparance with real life, according to previous posts. feels a bit like cheating :) Thanks again !!
