Fudd Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 For those of you who didnt know the F-2 existed... here it is. http://www.lockheedmartin.com/wms/findPage.do?dsp=fec&ci=11172&rsbci=0&fti=126&ti=0&sc=400  The code is probaly in Russian anyway.
Cobra360 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 And production has already decided to end after around 70 of them are delivered, it was planned to have around 150+. Japan now wants a bigger multi-role fighter. A fighter, I don't think many people know about is the Ching-kuo. Its like the top half of an F-16 spliced with the bottom half of an F/A-18. http://www.fighter-planes.com/info/idf.htm
Pilotasso Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 The F-2 is perhaps the most exotic F-16 variant out there. It has the potential to be the best, it only lacks a BVR missile and software for it, wich Japan was developing the last time I checked. This makes the F-2 a tremendous fighter. It was developed with cooperation of the now extinct General dynamics and provided the first ever AESA equiped fighter with western technology. Not only that but also first time ever in a plane of this class giving it twice the radar range of any other F-16 variant. This was back in early 1990's and made the plane as expensive as an F-15. Wich is probably why its aquisition numbers have been reduced over the years. This plane has been VASTLY ignored even by the expert analysts and very litle exists in specialized press, wich is a petty, because this plane is a world beater for the light fighter (not so light in the pay bill though). As a result of the lack of attention 99% of the people also VASTLY underrates it whenever it is mentioned. If I were for the japanese I would make fighter wings out of this plane, but they just want it for Air to surface work, and anti-shiping. IMHO a total waste of potential. Major modificatios are the Cockpit, curiously the japanese "upgraded" it with a framed canopy but stuffed it with 3 LCD MFD's, being the midle one of GIANT dimentions: It features stretched Fuselage and enlarged wings, while gaining 2 extra tons compared to the F-16C its 20% larger wing area actualy produce a lighter wing loading, wich is excelent for manueverability. The T/W is slightly lower as you might have guessed but it wont hog into high AOA or bleed as much. The engine is the same as US standard being it the General Electric F110-129 with 129kN of thrust. .
Force_Feedback Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 I think the FCK-1A is more advanced, and it looks better, it has sleek shapes, and beautiful intakes Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:
mikoyan Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 What obout the new chinese fighters , they have like 4 different aircraft , including the su-27.
Force_Feedback Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 What obout the new chinese fighters , they have like 4 different aircraft , including the su-27. The FCK-1a is taiwanese plane, nothing to do with China in current politics. It looks really great, the way the F-18 should have looked, actually it's like a F-16/F-18 kitbash. Cobra360 Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 The Chinese Su-27s that they build will be called the J-11 while the 30MKKs will be called the J-13. And correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Ching-kuo fighter I already mentioned and the FCK-1A, the same fighter?
Force_Feedback Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 Yeh, didn't know they called it the Chung pow or something, the thing really looks plane like, not beautiful and curved, but like a fighter plane should look like, long, sleek and thin. Creedence Clearwater Revival:worthy:

Dude thats a stopgap fighter, intended only for suplementing other fighters and to give the island independence of supply. This F-2 got AESA and is pretty much on top of the food chain man. The FCK1 has very basic equipment and is nowhere close to a vannila F-16. Im surprised you fall for looks like this. .
