arcturas
So when I ran updater in administrator mode, it did a search for previous files, then proceeded to update. It placed a 'downloads' folder on my desktop, a config/ autoupdate.dat/ and autoupdate.txt file on the desktop as well. then it proceeded to place ALL the folders on the desktop (not in the downloads folder on the desktop...or the DCS WORLD folder). At the end it gives me the 'successful update to vers 1.2.14#### ' msg. You think all is good and the updater FINALLY worked, you start DCS world....and get this: The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running.Check your computers system information to see whether you need an x86(32 bit) or x64(64 bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher. This is the same message I got last update, and the only way I've been able to play this game is to uninstall the whole thing and start over. I get into it once, then this. again, and again, and again. when you try to run it as administrator, you get: "Windows cannot find: 'C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\ DCS World\Bin\DCS_updater.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again." and yet I can find the file in that location... So any ideas this time around. And welcome to WORLD BETA TEAM where only a $50 download guarantees your entry!

Tone71
I only ask because I've had a program (not DCS) screw up on me before because I changed the UAC setting after installing it (file paths became a bit confused); I solved the problem by switching it back. arcturas
Then no. I didn't even know that tab existed till just now, lol. So no. This problem seems to rear up with every new version. I actually managed to play DCS the last time for a couple days, then the updater screws it up again. Eventually I just give up and hope they'll eventually repair it, then I try again a couple months later. It really is getting frustrating considering all the money I've spent buying modules. arcturas
so first things first...why does it dump all the downloaded folders onto my desktop instead of putting them in the DCS WORLD folder?

Tone71
so first things first...why does it dump all the downloaded folders onto my desktop instead of putting them in the DCS WORLD folder? That's what made me think of the UAC thing. Maybe the updater is getting the incorrect filepath from somewhere (registry? might want to search your registry for DCS/Eagle Dynamics entries). arcturas
my first question is why the updater dumped all the files on my desktop and not in the downloads folder. I did try to move everything there but it didn't. My other question would be why do we, who shell out money for this, have to go through this every time there is an update? I haven't enjoyed playing this in months because of this crap. and it's the same every year. Doesn't get any better.making a visual representation is fine, but it means nothing if they are not going to take the time to debug. not happy! arcturas
So this was just getting to be too much of a headache...again, so I deleted the whole thing and re-installed it, again. Works like a champ now, till the next updater failure...again!
Justificus
Wow, I was hoping to be spared this BS from an update but alas I'm not so lucky. I did the update and it installed just fine. I started the game and flew a mission in my current favorite ride, the Huey, and all was good. I then started a MiG-21 mission as I noticed the icon for that module was no longer a red one but some weird looking green one. Like others, I found myself in the nose of the plane with the game unresponsive. So I did the delete registry thing and then used the pcsml.exe file as directed. I then started the game again and still had the same problem. I decided to delete the module with the idea of installing it again. Now the stupid game won't even start for me! No matter if I click on the launcher or the DCS.exe file, nothing happens now... I've tried repairing and updating but nothing works at this point. Any ideas from you pros that have had to deal with this crap before? Thanks! Justificus
Where was there a delete file suggestion? The mig-21 suggestion I saw was to update, then run repair. There wasn't one that I know of. It was my own brilliant idea! :) I did all the suggestions but none worked for me and that's why I tried that. I just popped back on to say what DID fix my issue. I downloaded the Mig-21 module and installed and activated it. The game started up from the install screen and all was well with the world again! Thanks for putting up with my frustrated rant. :pilotfly: Justificus System Specs:i7 4970K @ 4.8, GTX 1080 SC, 32GB G.Skill DDR 2133,Thermaltake Level 10 Full Tower Case, Noctua NH-D15 6 Cooler, Win 10 Pro, Warthog, CH Pro Pedals, CH Throttle Quadrant, Oculus, 1 32" & 2 19" Monitors Modules Owned: A-10C I+II, Ka-50, FC3, F-86, Mig-15, Mig21, UH-1H, Mi-8, CA, P-51D, BF-109K-4, FW-190 D-9, Hawk, NTTR, M-2000C, SA342, F-5E, Spit Mk. sobe
Really frustrated I ran the updater and deleted the Mig 21 module. Now nothing will run and when I press the DCS world icon, I get the little black box and then nothing. I ran the updater again and also ran repair and still nothing.
