RvETito Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 IRL only the Ka-52 has been seen with over-mast radome which also AFAIK isn't confirmed to be an operational radar. About the abreviation- it's actualy 'KABRIS' (КАБРИС=Комплексная Авиационная Бортовая Радиотехническая Индикаторно-вычислительная Система) and could be translated as 'Board Multifunctional Aicraft Radionavigation Indicating and Computing System'. "See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is. If you don't know you shouldn't be flying." - Chuck Yeager, from the back seat of F-15D at age 89. =RvE=
Flyby Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 thanks AirTito, you said a mouthful with that explanation! It certainly sounds like an impressive system. programming it looks a bit cmplicated too. Practice, practice, practice, eh? VMFA117_Poko Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Yeah. Before getting knowledge about (K)ABRIS first you'll need to learn flying this :D - that may take a while IMHO.

quo vadis Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 First challenge to master will be the full take-off preparation from silent cockpit to the actual take-off. Without any checklists :D I do hope it is possible to start the engines with a simple procedure (like in SAR ) ?! I do like realism in flying, but am not really interested in following countless procedures :smilewink:
Boberro Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I do hope it is possible to start the engines with a simple procedure (like in SAR ) ?! I do like realism in flying, but am not really interested in following countless procedures :smilewink: Maybe as second option it would be nice, not as primary/ I would like to start Russian machine example MiG-29 like F-16 in Falcon. Even there needn't to be full 3D cocpit in MiG but it would be cool if the keabord will be full used to start plane. In Kamov I hope there will be really (I say really, really, real....) full realism, not like we have now.;) Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... GGTharos Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 The startup procedure in Ka-50 is relatively easy to memorize, as most of the switches you have to flip happen to be in conveniently arranged rows. In /some/ cases you might wish to stop and check instruments. It is easy enough to do from memory though, in my experience. If you screw up though ... Anyway, the startup takes some 3 min IIRC, however you're doing things meantime, rather than just sitting there getting bored (ie. setting up your datalinks, radios, navigation, what have you) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

quo vadis Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 There will be no 'fast startup' option ?! e.g. engines allready running, just release motorbreak ? Though I admit it can be interesting to follow correct procedures, sometimes I just want to get up and go. Shoot some basterds :joystick: !!!

Flyby Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 what about airstart missions? already airborne and on the way to do damage? lite missions. that's the ticket! :D But I do intend to learn the correct startup procedure. I guess someone will have an online coop where that's gonna take place. I can see some noob like me being left behind while I try to figure out where the fram-a-jam button is. I show up late for the party, and wind up being the only survivor, then no one wants to fly with me. Maybe I better leave BS alone! NOT!!!!! GGTharos Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 There are ways to start with engines started -so- far, yes, but remember things change from beta to beta so ... I don't wanna give you a definite yes on this. THere might be an 'easy' mode as well. Weta43 Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 If there is no easy start option with realism turned up, & are keystokes available, maybe some clever cookie will programme a 1 touch macro of the whole startup procedure so lazy beggars can sit in the cockpit & watch the switches toggle etc. 1 Cheers.
VMFA117_Poko Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 ^^ :megalol: good idea. It would solve the problem :D
amalahama Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 I think it's time for an other "When will this beauty come out?" question, isn't it?? :D Regards!
VMFA117_Poko Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Yeah, think it's time for another announcement at least.
amalahama Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Well, some more questions! In Glowing Amraam's incredible video we could see ground troops running and shooting. Does this mean a skeletal model has been introduced in Lockon? Will we see ground crew repairing and rearming our helo?? Or will ground troops be able to enter and exit from assault's helicopters and troops transports? The human presence in the game can be a very interesting thing! Regards!!

Rather... objects..make it vehicles.. that look like humans.. and have single and simple "running" animation and death animation... Don't think that you'll see any rag-dolls and skeletal animation in Lock On. Ok, maybe "skeletal animation" is a little "hardcore" word  You are correct, true skeletal animation is unnecesary in a flightsim so my question is if there will be more animations in BlackShark as well as running and death animations. In a recent video (I don't remember its name, but It's a BlackShark video without any Ka-50 in it, only fast jets) I could see Igla's people without any animation but only a dry and unrealistic rotation, it's a shame they can't move more like an human. Regards!!
ED Team Glowing_Amraam Posted October 13, 2007 ED Team Posted October 13, 2007 Well, in this shot (from EDGE), you can see the soldier on the left crouching down, and aiming. I can't wait  Can soldiers be deployed from trucks and assaults helicopters? or Do they only "appear" in the map and they must go to anywhere running?? (poor soldiers lol) Regards!!!
EvilBivol-1 Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 ED is trying to model individual infantry, but given that the game engine wasn't designed for this, it's a bit problematic. I would suggest the "cautiously optimistic" approach here. If implemented, infantry units will be animated and mobile. So far, Stinger units are animated to turn and point, but are not mobile. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
