razo+r Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 If i press lshift + i to turn off power, my Radar is still turning around, but Not my Radar screen, so i wanted to ask is that a bug or is it Not the right Button to turn off the Radar? Next question isn't about Sams but i still wanna know that: what is the key combination to activate the smoke around your Tank?
razo+r Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Is the smoke cloud for the Player even modeled?
Wrecking Crew Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 From a vehicle that you are in control of, bring up binoculars and you can pop smoke around you. I'll use that to mark my own position for the pilots above. WC Visit the Hollo Pointe DCS World server -- an open server with a variety of COOP & H2H missions including Combined Arms. All released missions are available for free download, modification and public hosting, from my Wrecking Crew Projects site.
Paganus Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I don't think the radar power is tied to the external animation of the dish at this time. Defensive smoke is automatic, and not well done at this point.
vicx Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 (edited) razo+r, The I switch is for putting the radar into a low emissions mode not for turning the dish rotation off. They are two totally separate functions. In DCS you probably only want to turn off the dish to move the vehicle and this is done automatically in the game which is not ideal (realism whatevs). Turning off the engine and the system power would save fuel, but fuel isn't modeled for ground vehicles. You may have other reasons for wanting to control the animations of this and other units. I am working on a hack to do this and some other things. Edited February 27, 2015 by vicx
Mike5560 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 On SAM simulator, for instance, the SA8 Osa has seperate switches for acquisition radar emissions and the radar rotating.
Looney Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Setting the state to red or green makes the dish restract and store or start turning. The emission control button doesn't have an effect on this. As far as I know, you can only do this as a tactical commander. Leaving the vehicle results in the AI checking the state set to red, green or auto and perform accordingly. Pressing left-ALT 1, 2 or 3 will launch a flare vertically in red, green and white colour. Smoke is done automatically when the vehicle takes damage, no player controlled action. Arcto10 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Just to confirm something: When you turn off emissions (lshift+i) it will no longer show you on an aircraft's rwr?
razo+r Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 So theoreticly if i turn off or lower my Emission, is the enemy still able to See me on his rwr or Not?
vicx Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Arcto, I have had more experience with this stuff from the scripting side of things. I know that when you turn off a ground unit's radar that any AI aircraft with an RWR still track the LAST KNOWN location of the radar source. Maybe someone can tell me with a simple test if the RWR display in human piloted aircraft keep the LAST KNOWN location of radars that have gone cold.
razo+r Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 But except the last Position tracking, am i Safe with lower Emission cause i'd like to fight against friends with sead planes
Looney Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Simple test? Take off, fly towards known position of SAM unit which is shining its radar. fly over its position, have the SAM operator switch off their radar. Move the SAM to a new positon some kilometers away Turn on radar. IIRC the RWR doesn't show a history (for long) of detected emitters. Once LSHIFT-I is pressed, the radar switches off and should drop off the RWR. YMMV.
