Yeh basically the title. FPS doesn't go above 60, even in the menu. Completely unplayable on a Vive because the judder is atrocious. Running version 1.5, Windows 10, 980Ti, i5-3570k. Just checked, GPU usage is 50%, CPU is 25%~.

On a side note, the game won't start normally now too, only starts in VR mode.

Is V-SYNC off and reprojection enabled in your SteamVR settings?

V-sync is off and reprojection is off.

Ok that seems to have fixed the judder ingame. Menu was still juddery. FPS is still capped at 60 and flip flops between 60 and 45. GPU usage was about 30% and CPU about 40%.

Not sure if I want to play it at 45 FPS since I've heard it causes VR sickness, but I'll try it later.

The 45 fps is with reprojection. This is a good thing. If it's smooth then that is what you are after. 45 fps without reprojection would make you feel ill fairly quickly.

I had a DK2 without any reprojection and 45 fps or there abouts made me feel pretty awful.

Does the game actually play well on the VIVE at less than 90FPS?

The downside of the VIVE to me seemed to be the lack of Asynch time warp, which is probably fine if you're playing a game like Job Simulator, a game that looks like it was designed by the guy that made the Dire Straits music video, but what about real games... like DCS?

Does anyone know what the IPD adjustment limits are? I believe the Rift's IPD max is around 72, which is just outside mine. Hopefully the Vive is wider if the Rift doesn't work out for me.

TL;DR

Yes, there is a flavour of reprojection that SteamVR/OpenVR uses that is effective in DCS.

45 fps is pretty smooth.

The HTC Vive Pre is 60.9 - 73.6

The consumer unit might be different.

My IPD is 58-59, so yeah, HTC needs to increase the ranges.

For all intents and purposes, the Pre and CV are identical, so I'd bet that value holds true for both.

Thanks, Its good to know I have another good option if the Rift doesn't pan out.

can somone who have the Vive take a camera and record while they are flying in DCS? take a camera into the lens and record the SDE, like this video.

This is the oculus tho

Ok I got into the air with the Warthog in the Vive. Felt sick every time I changed the attitude. Bailed on that in 60 seconds. Maybe it's the low FPS or something else, but I can't play that.

Sorry to hear. Maybe try it in small increments, see if you can find out if it's just your inner ear having a fit.

I tried DCS on my VIVE with reprojection ON and it stays around 45 fps and sometimes go up to 90fps.

That said, this is with low/medium setting and with some quick training missions it drops under 45fps consistently which is atrocious!!

I used to play on my 4k screen maxed out at more than 90fps!! WTF is going on here ??!!

I hope we will see performance increase and ED is working on some optimisation :(

If not, what is causing that terrible perf hit ?

FPS, FPS, and FPS. You have to maintain high FPS. If you don't, and you're like most others, you will get motion sickness.

Well you're gonna have to give some tips on how to maintain FPS, as previously mentioned the game is only using 40% CPU (Quadcore I5-3570k) and 50% GPU (GTX 980 Ti).

Does the Vive only fix to 45 with reprojection, or are there incremental settings for 15, 30, 60 FPS?

My understanding is that it is just 45/90fps and below 45, if real bad. At least that's been what I've witnessed in not a whole lot of testing.

It's no different than before. Try the lowest settings and incrementally go up. The common misconception is "I have a Titan/980ti I can max out all settings so VR will be just fine..." and it's not. Also, make sure you use flat shadows.

Again, go to low setting and move up a few settings at a time to insure you maintain high FPS.

That ain't going to work. Unfortunately no settings can maintain 90fps as the op pointed out. We need a lot of optimizations to the core engine to better utilize our hardware in VR.

Yeah as you say, I think they need to optimize the rendering in VR mode. There is no reason the fps is so low on quality settings compared to what it's like on my rig in 4k maxxed out. So, I'll give the devs some time :)

Multiplayer can drag down FPS based on server load, so you are kind of restricted there as well.
