Just watched the movie.

Overall, a decent movie, quite avarage, imo.

You could've made it more exciting by following these pointers (imo):

- Use different music

- Different angles. You show pretty much the exact same stuff we see all the time in-game.

- Shorter scenes. Some are quite long, and boring where nothing is happening.

You also have some errors in the movie where we see you pause the game.

Slowing time down would also help you improve the framerate.

That's all i could come up with right now about the movie. Please make more, and try to improve and add the stuff i pointed out to you.

Don't take it the wrong way, i know how much trouble you have to go through to make a movie, but now you're another fellow movie maker, and i'm here to help out and give some pointers. ;)

Cheers

Hmm, Got mixed thoughts on the music...I sort of like its stevie vai/zappa-ishness, but dont think it fits the track well, as for the film, too many long shots of ground stuff, but hey its prolly much better than I could do, definately worth doing some more work on

oo err...missus:animals_bunny:

Well War IS depressing. Isn't it. :music_whistling:

I like the movie and the music. It's different than most, and that's a good thing.

One question though about the ground defenses. Do they always move and fire in unision. I'm assuming the ones that do move and fire together are part of one unit in the MP. Just doesn't look very good. No one could time it out that well. I would like to see the ground units look and move more natural.

I really disliked the music, and that always casts a shadow over things. However my taste in music isn't your problem. :-)

The movie could have been "tighter" with fewer long or repetetive scenes, but it did have one scene which I *really* liked... the one where there's lots of smoke blowing across the battlefield. Very nicely observed and captured.

I also have a soft spot for people using basic tools. Movie Maker2 isn't the best editor in the world, but it's great value for money, and there are no fancy special effects to hide behind! :-)

Good effort, well done. Next time though, try to look for a few more unusual camera angles. They can really help spice up a movie.

So would all of us, but it's not something the AI is capable of doing. I'm *hoping* BS will have improved ground vehicle behaviour, but I'm not expecting it.

It was a nice movie, was it your first one? You had some of the scenes showing to long like GA said.

It shows the things that spice up Operation Hot Dog. I think it's a nice promo for that campaign.

..and what's for free?

all of this, icluding the campaign promoted by this movie

Just out of curiosity...uh...why would you say download for free when you can just say get it at? Kind of makes me think you have payware on your site...

Glowing Amraam, thanks for the tips; if you could give me some pointers about how to achieve non in-game angles that would be great. I spotted the pauses too – after I had rendered the movie down to the wmv file. What a pain. Will try slowing down time if I do another one – guess that would help in those shots were I panned across the instrument panel.

I got the message about the music. That’s a tricky area as ones personal taste comes in here (perhaps I haven’t got any!!). I chose the piece because of the mood it evoked: the sense of urgency and the fast tempo. I’ll record something different next time - I know a fellow who plays the bagpipes.

Anyway, that was my first movie. And all the campaigns, training videos on the site are free to download as long as my bandwidth holds out.

I'm impressed! Especially for a first movie. I could never do this. All the tips your getting can only make a good piece of work even better. I certainly wouldn't call it "average." I've seen average, this ain't average!

Keep it up. I'm anxious to see what you come up with next.

Snomhf, coming up next will be a portrayal of a massive conflict between NATO and WARPAC forces, but this time from the Russian point of view using one of my Su-27 campaigns as a model. I like to keep a fair balance.

Yesterday, I took a look at Glowing Amraams video HEAT for inspiration. It’s well worth downloading. Must look into getting Vegas; looks like it does a pretty good job. I also had a play around with Ctrl F11. Is there any way of anchoring it to an active object like an aircraft or a tank?

Anyway, good, constructive criticism from this forum. But what really makes me hot under the collar is denigration from people taking a strange moral position like this:

http://forums-de.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/254106073/m/7011026734

This is a combat simulation or is it not?

ViperVJG73 says: ‘I find it very tasteless to misuse Lock On for such scenarios. We are happy that no such thing has happened between East and West in reality.

This is exactly the portrayal of war that the makers of Lock On wanted to avoid; this is why there are neither nuclear weapons nor established fronts between Red and Blue forces.’

(and so it goes on, and on)

Taipan128 goes on to misquote Glowing Amraam, ‘that it is one (video) among many which flows from the same pattern’.

Titan3025 also says: ‘I also agree with them. Simply tasteless’.

FW-109 responds: ‘really tasteless’.

If anyone else found the video offensive let me know and I will produce one about terrorists (can’t find them in the ME though) or one about the Russian 12th Armoured Brigade’s expedition to collect wild flowers in the Crimean Highlands.

lol. Did a quick babel of that link DPS. I can't believe the comments. If it is tasteless to them I think they need FS9 instead of lock-on.

As you say this is a "Combat" flight simulator not my little pony or the sims. :pilotfly:

Keep up the good work mate.

The music is sick, while the shots, scenes and everything about the video, barely follows the usual conventions of movie making.

At the moments, the whole composition looks sloppy, careless and out of tune.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say this video honours postmodernism apstract art, intentionally giving the impression of some retro late 80's , B movie atmosphere.

Only thing that is missing in DPS's video, are the zombies getting out of the tanks and eating flesh from the live cows on the countryside.

So, what do I think of this video?

I LOVE IT!!

I still haven't been able to view the whole vid, DPS, but its all CG depictions of reality. Not sure what all the fuss is about. I wonder...would those nay-sayers be offended when they found out that the rocket launchers, the Katyusha, were named after someone's grandmother way back in the day? Oh...how horrible.
