Hi all!

Do u think I can bump some frames in DCS by buying a new GPU. My average now is 40-60 fps ingame. My current specs are; Intel i7 2700 k @ 3,5ghz 16 gb corsair RAM, Gainward Geforce 680 2gb and game on ssd disk.

Thank you! :=)

Live the GPU as it is :)

I have the same processor and it's capable of high overclocking. I would recomend to buy a good cooling system than overclok it to about 4,5 GHz ;) Sent me PM and I will guide you how to tune your performers without spending a penny ;)

From the other hand I would recomend to wait till Edge come :)

Hi, unfortunately I bought a crappy motherboard unclockable :( maybe I should put my money in a better card to enable overclocking. I have corsair h80i as a cooler.

If the Sim. is playable right now, I would wait for EDGE. It may turn out to be a waste of money.

I wouldn't bother if I were you. I'm still doing fine with an old GTX580 & i7-2600K OCd to 4.6GHz combo. The sim is locked at 30 FPS (vsync @ 1/2 refresh rate) and the framerate just stays there rock solid, almost regardless of how busy things get. The experience is buttery smooth, apart from some slight motion judder one inevitably gets with that low an F/S cap, but I seldom see _any_ irregular stuttering and/or microstutters anywhere. So all in all, this oldish system (built sometime during 2012 if memory serves) runs DCS pretty well, and consequently I've decided to leave it well alone for now. Why fix something that ain't broken?

The time for re-evaluation however comes when EDGE is released - and OK, if I can get, say, a newer-generation x80 NVidia cheaply I'll probably buy one anyway. But I'm still doing just fine "as is" regardless :)

I upgraded from a 570 to a 780, use a 2600k as well, was worth the upgrade, but if you have a 680, I'm not sure i'd upgrade just yet, wait for the next best thing from the titan x that isn't nearly as expensive...

see... nvidia does this thing where they sit on their butts and wait for ati to catch up, and then as soon as ati does, nvidia stomps on them again, rinse, repeat... I think it's to prevent them from becoming complacent, something about not being a monopoly.

Whats the money mean to you? I went from 2 285GTX's getting average maybe 30FPS to a 970GTX and I get something like 90-100... Its so fast I don't even pay attention anymore.

Thank you for responding. I think I will properly wait a bit. Comparing the 680 to 970 on GPu boss doesn't show that much difference. But I think I will try to get a new motherboard and clock a bit. I'll get 60 fps but like 40 when stuff gets busy. Maybe I should settle with that and see what edge has to offer :)

GTX 970 is the best card for the money. Love mine but like you said you may want to wait.
