Just managed my smoothest touchdown and rollout to date with the Flanker. Final vertical speed was under 1 m/s (HUD repeater showed 0).

But at the same time this much floating makes it just a nice touchdown, but not necessarily a good landing.

:) I figure any landing I walk away from is good. Any landing I walk away from and only modestly break the airplane is better. And any landing I walkaway from and don't break the airplane at all is best. But his is certainly one of the smoothest touchdowns and landing rolls I've seen. His float time was certainly impressive, if not necessarily desired.

We're all proud of not waking up the babies on-board. :)

But at the same time, do it while landing at the aimpoint, not 1/3 down the runway :)

Well...there is that. :) But he just needs to make a few adjustments to make it "perfect". And it was fun to watch. And he should take pride in it.

If I can get the track to play back correctly, I'll have one of my own to post soon--not nearly as smooth as ShuRugal's, though.

I thought I done the perfect landing once...... I swear I pressed the G key... Serves me right for not checking the greeen lights...:joystick::pilotfly:

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

+1 also it looks like his engines touch the ground at some point.

Well, since the point of this thread is to show off the best landing you have managed, let's see y'all do 'em better. I never said mine was perfect, just that it was the best (from the perspective of precise control) i'd done in the flanker. I could certainly have put it down closer to the numbers, but I'm perfectly happy with a light touchdown anywhere inside the touchdown-zone as indicated by the tire marks.

As to touching the runway, maybe? It didn't make the scrape sound when I was executing it, but on one of the track replays, it did (but not, interestingly, the second time i played the track). Shame I can't check for paint damage, or I'd know for certain.

Smooth landing ShuRugal  Congratz!

And I didn't see the nozzles plowing the runway.

BTW, what is the maximum pitch angle to avoid paying the bill? I usually try to stay below 12° (aiming for 10°).

The next level could be a cobra landing on the Kuznetsov (with a Su-27) ;)

I find landing the Crane very challenging.

I find the key to a successful landing in the Su-27 is a lengthy approach. Plenty of time to line up, correct speed and glide slope usually = nice soft touchdown in line with the runway.

Hurried approach usually = too fast on landing and a trip in to the weeds. Doesn't usually end well for me...

It helps, too, to learn what the proper decent rate looks like through the HUD without relying on the flight director. Once you've got that, any landing becomes much, much easier regardless of where you start from or whether your approach is straight in, assuming VFR conditions.

Keep one eye on the threshold and the other on the variometer and the third on your airspeed and a fourth on the AoA meter. :) Like everything else, good practice makes for good landings. And perfect practice makes for perfect landings.

Thanks for the info about the max landing pitch, Rich.

I tried to keep a few replays of my landing experiments but that function seem to mess with me every time (wrong alignment on the runway and such).

I was using the short runway near Kutaisi.

Two tracks are attached. One with a standard successful landing (but the final alignment is wrong - I was perfectly aligned) and the other one is a successful landing + take-off and improvised aerobatics (with a fun looping + short touch-and-go on the rear wheels) (everything lost after the landing because the alignment is wrong :( ).

Anyway. The Flanker is a delight to fly and land since the PFM!

(I'm using the DCS Missiles 1.2 mod)

Are you using the latest update? I ask because every landing I've recorded with it installed ends wrong during replay.

I'll try to watch your tracks either later today or tomorrow.

Yes. Latest update.

It sounds like an ongoing bug.

Don't bother watching the first track then.

In the second track, I landed roughly centered but the replay puts the Flanker on the right side and it ends up in the grass with full AB instead of re-centering + T-O + having fun. And I don't recall hurting the nozzles but it may have happened.

Just for reference - here are my mods (nothing that could break the replays imo):

The missile mod is a problem, I suppose, for those who don't have it installed and view a track involving missiles but otherwise...

Hopefully I'll have some time in the next day or two to pull together a quick vid of one of my landings so I can post it.

That short field is becoming quite the gathering place. I've noticed several tracks/videos made of landings there lately. I'll have to try it myself sometime.

Watched the tracks. As you say, both were misaligned but fun to watch anyway. :)
