It's not the high g loading so much as the rate of change of the g load. If you gradually increase the g load on the wings, you can exceed 7g without risking the loss of one (or both). However, if you increase the load from 1g to 7g+ in a fraction of a second, you're looking at some serious damage. Regardless, sustained high g loads aren't going to be great for an airframe!

the story is true. Some pics are photoshopped so they show the situation the f-15 and its pilot was in. The photoshops have nothing to do with the legitimacy of the story.

Its not propaganda. Although the Israelis and the US often spice up those stories, the wingless F-15 landing did hapen. I have a documentary telling this story.

I also remember landing the f-15 and the in lomac, but I deleted the screens in a reinstall.

 

The key in landing clipped airfoils is to trim them, and anticipate the reduced effectivity at slow speeds.

 

Oh, also had tons of screens where I landed the su-25t with either one or both wings clipped, but everybody did that in the first days of FC, so it ain't news.

This is LockOn, reality????.... impossible!

 

In real life the pilot would either eject immediately, or crash that thing near a designated position (some lake or other unpopulated area), ejecting from it first. There is no way anybody will be taking the risk of damaging the runway.

 

The Russians had a similar incident with the Mig-AT, during a test flight, the horizontal stab broke off, and the pilot had only 150kg of fuel left while being 40km from the runway. He landed it by using engine thrust only (roll and yaw remained uneffected). The difference however is that they both had a HUD-tape of it, and a ground camera shot the approach and landing. ;)

The pics of the F15 in the air are from a documentary on the incident - it was on the History channel. They are obviously edited as a recreation of the incident. There are no inflight photo's of that incident that I am aware of.
