airdoc Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) Hey guys, The game's native throttle response for the P51 is very jerky at low manifold pressure ranges (20-40 inches), and as a result minute throttle movements are translated into relatively abrupt power changes. For precision flying, where 2-3 inches of change make all the difference (i.e. landing approach and formation flying), I found that modifying the throttle curve is extremely helpful. Now I can easily stay in formation without worrying about abrupt throttle-induced-yaw, overshooting, etc. With the following curve you can have precision at both low and high MPs (and you have bigger precision where you need it the most) : Deadzone 0 Sat X and Y 100 Curvature 0 Slider tick Invert clear User curve tick Values for the curve from left to right : 0 - 23 - 40 - 56 - 66 - 73 - 78 - 82 - 87 - 93 - 100 Please note that these numbers work best for the Warthog Throttle. You may need to modify them a bit for other sticks. cheers Edited May 3, 2015 by airdoc 1 The three best things in life are a good landing, a good orgasm, and a good bowel movement. ctguy1955 Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) I will try this for the DORA as I cant take off for beans. *********************************************** I have to say that changing my Saitek X36F pitch to 30 and roll to 23 has enabled me to now be able to take off every time without any more problems. I got a lot of help from a friend who sat in his plane on his server and watched me take off and gave me hints what to do, and that was what really helped me, but changing my joystick curves really helped too !!! Skulleader Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Super Airdoc with your settings my P-51 is perfect !!! A great thanks for this sharing, do you know if this kind of settings is good for the collective Huey and Mi-8 ? Thanks again, Skull. IonicRipper Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 If its how it was in the real plane then I have no problem with how it is now. Does anyone have that information? Was it really that sensitive at low MP? i5 4590 @ 3.77GHz | GTX 1060 6GB | 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 | 1TB HDD+500GB HDD | Win10 Home X64 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ZaltysZ Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Does anyone have that information? Was it really that sensitive at low MP? Automatic manifold pressure regulator does its job well only above 40''. If pressure is below that, you cant get variations with changing altitude and/or RPM. This makes it hard to instantly set wanted pressure at lower range if setting it affects the RPM. Ala13_ManOWar Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 No idea how real P-51 performs, but real aircraft I have flown with similar engine management are quite the same I see in game. May be controls hardware also makes a difference. ED always recommends straight input for best realism, but if you are more comfortable using curves with your hardware, why not using them? S! airdoc Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 I 'm glad that you guys have found the curve to be helpful. @SkullReader : I don't own the choppers so I don't know how these settings will affect them. I have found the throttle curve to be of significant help in the P-51, and less so for the Dora and Kurfurst (with some minor adjustments). I don't know how the real-life responsiveness of the MP to the throttle is, but there are some issues when attempting to convert to a sim : throttle travel and throttle resistance. In the end, i think that it's all about getting the wanted result. With the native curve (line to be more accurate) I found myself struggling to stay in formation and doing abrupt corrections while on final approach, even when I tried to manipulate the throttle as lightly as possible. I can't imagine that it would be like this in the real thing. Now it comes naturally. The three best things in life are a good landing, a good orgasm, and a good bowel movement. The night carrier landing is one of the few opportunities in life to experience all three at the same time.
TheSkipjack95 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Thanks a lot for the curve Airdoc, it completely changed my P-51 experience. Do you know of curves for the other two warbirds ?
airdoc Posted June 17, 2015 Author Posted June 17, 2015 Jack I used a slight modification of the P51 curve for the Dora and K4, but after a PC accident I had to completely reinstall and lost the data. The three best things in life are a good landing, a good orgasm, and a good bowel movement. The night carrier landing is one of the few opportunities in life to experience all three at the same time.

Pineapple Pete Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Thanks airdoc. I use the TF-51 as a test platform before transferring to P-51. I am off to give it a try. As an aside, I have the CH Products and I am beginning to think I should have gone with the Warthog. i did get rid of the Pro Pedal and went with the Saitek Pedals. Much happier. All in all (being a pilot in real life) it is the pitch control that is giving me the most fits in the P-51 Regards It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. So I fly half fast. :D
