Hey guys,

I'm helping my friend build a desktop. There's quite a few choices for Motherboards for $130 or under and I can't really tell which is better than the other.

Recommendations or advice?

It's going to be for an Intel i5, and looking for 2 or 3 GPU slots. Not really sure what other features we want/need.

Here's the kind of stuff I've been looking at:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007627%2050001315%2050001944%2050001314%2050001312%20600036416%204017%20600009016%20600176036%20600176035%204814%204114%20600438202%204115&IsNodeId=1

(I like Newegg, but if you guys have other site recommendations let me know)

Thanks in advance. :)

I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the brand name boards. I have an Asus Z87-A. With a $90-100 price tag it's at low end of the product tier. It's been trouble free and I didn't have any problem pushing a moderately high OC with it.

Don't forget a good PSU if you want to run 2 or more VCards.

That's pretty much what I'm thinking, my friend's not going to even use half the ports on it anyways. I just need one that has more than 1 Vcard slot and overclocks fairly well, nothing crazy.

Indeed.

I was thinking like a 750W bronze. He's probably going to run like a r9 280 or something like that and then maybe upgrade to Crossfire or SLI in the future. What do you think?

By the way, how do you like the GTX 960?

I like it and it runs 4 monitors with nice fps. that 750 will do fine..but u need to figure out if he is going with AMD or Nvidia? Now DCS likes the Nvidia more so then the AMD chipset..

In know you specified under $130, but for about $10 more you might want to look at the ASUS Z97A motherboard. It has pretty much all the features you are looking for and would even have some legs for the future.

Intel i5-4690K Devil's Canyon, GForce TitanX, ASUS Z-97A MB, 16GB GDDR3 GSkill mem, Samsung SSD X3,Track IR, TM Warthog, MFG Crosswind pedals, Acer XB280HK monitor,GAMETRIX KW-908 JETSEAT

Thanks for the link you sent me slowhand, some interesting combos there. Helping my friend look for parts has peaked my interest in upgrading again, uh oh. :D

Also, wow I didn't know that card could run 4 monitors by itself. :shocking:

Chief, we can be flexible with price if it's worth it, I'll check it out.
