Tucano_uy Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 As the title says. Please put all the manuals (core, modules and 3rd party) in the same folder, somewhere easily accessible and visible. Digging through folders is not what somebody getting acquainted with this very complex simulator needs to do. What about a folder called, err... Manuals in the Eagle Dynamics root folder or the Documents folder? Also, I transfer all the manuals to a tablet, getting to know if I have the last versions is a bit of a mission. I know it is not something critical, but it might help the sim be a bit more user friendly. :book: 1
MemphisBelle Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 (edited) I am at work now so I cant check the path, but the filestructure is well ordered afaik. ED root/Mods/aircrafts/A-10C/doc (same for the other modules, I dont remember the 3rd Party mordules now though) Do you have a Problem with this structure? You wont read all of them all simultanously anyways, so whats wrong with it? :book: A suggestion, create a Folder named Documents on your Desktop and put shortcuts of the Aircraft/doc Folders in there, so you don´t need to dig through the Folders, thats how I´d do that if it´d bother me. Edit: Besides this, I dont believe that it would be possible to handle it other than the current way as the documents are coming with the individual download of each module, so it´s technically impossible to have all of them stored in one Folder apart from the module Folder...correct me if I am wrong Edited June 7, 2015 by MemphisBelle BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection
Tucano_uy Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 I do realise it's a minor thing. You're right about the current structure. Maybe my issue is my OCD... I just find it a bit messy, open c/program files/eagle dynamycs/dcs world/mods/aircraft/whatever aircraft/doc to get to the first thing one shoud access when getting a module. Remember that we have been using this software for years, try to place yourself in the shoes of a new user. I don't see why the installer wouldn't be able to place files anywhere required.
MemphisBelle Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Remember that we have been using this software for years, try to place yourself in the shoes of a new user. A new user wouldnt probably wonder about that as he would consider this as the usual thing...I think :). The biggest Thing imho is that it would be a messie work for the Developers to spread the Manuals with DCS World and not with the Modules which would be impossible as we would have not up to date Documents. By the current way we can be sure that each document is up to the latest date regarding the respective module... If I can be so naughty...live with it :joystick::D what about my Suggestion with the Shortcuts, would that be somethings for you? BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection
Tucano_uy Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 Kids this days plays with consoles buddy, it is not natural to dig in 7 folders to read the basic PDF for a game. Introduce a friend to DCS and ask him how easy it was to understand how the whole program works. My manuals are sorted, in my iPad. My suggestion was not because I could't read the manuals but to improve the sim (in my opinion) by 0,00001% The DCS installer places files everywhre within the Dcs world folder so I guess there should be no problem to use a common folder for the docs, and when there's an update, replace it from that folder. Either I don't understand you or you don't understand me in this regard. Really not that important and definitely not worth 5 posts Good flights!

Buzzles Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Kids this days plays with consoles buddy, it is not natural to dig in 7 folders to read the basic PDF for a game. Alternatively, there could just as easily be a View Manual button on the main DCS menu that opens up the relevent pdf, just like the non-functional View Manual option on the ingame menu should do (or maybe did). There's already some support for it in the lua files, eg BF109's entry.lua: set_manual_path('Bf-109K-4',current_mod_path .. '/Doc/Manual') Shame it just doesn't currently work from what I can see. zaelu Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 As a solution to this problem (although is also nice to have manuals in each modules from a stand point) I copied the folder with shortcuts to manuals to my desktop and also I had put all the gathered manuals from internet there. So they are somehow in one place. You need to go to: C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\ and copy Documentation folder where you want it. Bucic Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Start Menu, All Programs, Eagle Dynamics, DCS World, Documentation. You should know better that it does not show all the documentation. Not even close. I myself was about to post a question on where is the manual for Su-25T for the very reason.
