Radbes Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 So I was walking around IKEA with my special someone, looking at stuff to buy for our new appartment. Then I saw this laptop-stand, and I got an idea. I have been looking for a joystick-stand for my TMWH stick that is hight-adjustable. I turned it over, and found that the tabletop is held to the stand via a round, plastic platform, about the size of the TMWH stick base. Some new drilled holes and it should fit nicely. And it was only $15. So I bought it, and drilled the new holes. It works like a charm! This is the table, as intended. Called Svartåsen at IKEA. And this is the result. It is actually really solid, no jiggle at all. All Modules | TM HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Combat Pedals | TrackIR |
GregP Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Whoa, nice find! That's sure to come in useful to some of our fellow simmers. Thanks for sharing that.
CHRISXTR3M3 Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Very. Ice! Hi fiveeee User Files for AV8-B, X55
feefifofum Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Man, great find. I could have saved a few bucks on my wheelstand pro, looks like. :) Do you think it would be solid enough to make some kind of throttle stand out of? What are the min/max heights on the pole, if you don't mind measuring? THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
Radbes Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 Not sure about the throttle I'm affraid. The platform is not big enough to hold the TMWH throttle. Min. hight is 47cm, and Max is 77cm. All Modules | TM HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Combat Pedals | TrackIR |
Sporg Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 How about if you keep the top plate? Isn't it big enough for the TMWH throttle? And is it solid enough for that? System specs: Gigabyte Aorus Master, i7 9700K@std, GTX 1080TI OC, 32 GB 3000 MHz RAM, NVMe M.2 SSD, Oculus Quest VR (2x1600x1440) Warthog HOTAS w/150mm extension, Slaw pedals, Gametrix Jetseat, TrackIR for monitor use
Radbes Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 The tabletop is Big. Like huge. With it on, it is not as solid as when I mounted the stick. Very jiggly. All Modules | TM HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Combat Pedals | TrackIR |
Viersbovsky Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 You could always make a wooden board in the right size and mount that on top of the stand, then attach the throttle to that. Nice find, maybe a bit too high for a stick with an extension, but I´ll buy one. Callsign "Lion"
Bedouin Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Lol, my wife uses it for her laptop when sitting in the sofa... would she ever find out if it suddenly ended up, into a joystick stand in my office... :-) .
PiedDroit Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Good stuff, exactly what I was looking for
thereminqblank Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Woah, nice work. I have noticed those tables before and thought they looked useless! I'll now eat my hat, then probably buy one.... "Unholy Roller" [sIGPIC]http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/userbars/A-10C_UserBar_01.gif[/sIGPIC]
mrwell Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Very good find! I'll use it for LAN parties! Also for TQS would be nice. Thanks for sharing!
PiedDroit Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 (edited) I just bought one, very easy to install, there is some plastic cutting but nothing difficult (*). It's quite stable except it will slide or tip if you apply full deflection on the stick without a bit of downward pressure with your hand (the stand itself is very light, the base is made of plastic). Highly recommended for a quick'n'cheap setup  (*) I cut the rim around the stick base so I could put it between my legs. Edited July 4, 2015 by PiedDroit

Radbes Posted July 8, 2015 Author Posted July 8, 2015 Awesome! Sawed off the excess plastic on mine now also. All Modules | TM HOTAS Warthog | Saitek Combat Pedals | TrackIR |
MK84 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Get two of them and you can mount your throttle as well. - Ikea SVARTASEN HOTAS mount
cheap charlie Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 I have the same iKEA table sitting next to me that I use for beer or coffee etc its quite handy for light stuff but its very unstable , light and wobbly. Ive no idea how it would keep the throttles from tipping over
MK84 Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 You can add weights to the base for extra stability. Dumbbell weights work pretty well. http://bit.ly/1xr39fO
Nopileus Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Having done this yesterday i consider it a waste of money, the plastic of the foot is just too soft and flexes all over the place with the Warthog on it. Even for its intended use i can't see how using a foot with this little rigidity was a good idea.

CallsignFrosty Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Behold my elite flight sim setup, super comfy, super cheap, super small (the rudder is not on the photo, but there's one): LOL I also use a cardboard box for a throttle stand. I am trying to fiddle around with my setup atm, maybe I will try this. Since buying a saitek yoke for civvie things it really gets in the way. This table could be the answer to my dreams... well sort of.

As long as you have a way to tie it or weight it down, this stand is definitely a great option (or a great interim/test test setup).
