Jacks Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 My rig is a i5 3570k @ 4.5GHz, ASUS GTX 770 OC @2050, 8Gb 1600 RAM and 240Gb SSD. I can play the A-10C, F-86 and Huey with decent frame rate (mostly 50fps and down to 30 ish on the ground with lots of aircraft). I have read that the MIG-21 is fps hungry and so I concerned that I will waste my money buying a mig-21 now as it would be unplayable until DCS 1.5 is released. How does the FPS compared to the A10C, F-86 or Huey? Thanks in advance, jacks System Specs: i7 8700k @ 5.0GHz (not delidded), ASRock Extreme4 Z370 MOBO, EVGA GTX 1080 SC 8GB, 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz DDR4 RAM, Samsung Evo 240GB SSD, Samsung Evo 500GB SSD, 1TB HDD, Noctura NH-D15S Heat Sink, Acer VE278H 27" 1080p Monitor, Ocukus Rift CV1. Controllers: TrackIR 5, Thrustmaster HOTAS X, Saitek Throttle Quadrant (with DIY removable collective mod), Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals. Just trying to keep my number of takeoffs and landings equal!
MegOhm_SD Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 (edited) Larger SSD, double your Ram and you should be good to go for a long time. But it is always fun getting the next graphics card. Pizzicato Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 (edited) In answer to the question, you should be totally fine with those specs. My PC is considerably less powerful than yours and the Mig-21 runs just fine. There were optimisation and FPS issues when it was first released, but the subsequent revisions seemed to address them all. It's well worth the money and I see no real reason to wait for 1.5. Edited July 28, 2015 by Cobra847 i7-7700K @ 4.9Ghz | 16Gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz | MSI Z270 Gaming M7 | MSI GeForce GTX 1080ti Gaming X | Win 10 Home | Thrustmaster Warthog | MFG Crosswind pedals | Oculus Rift S

I don't think you'll be disappointed. -Nick
Cedaway Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Look at my rig in the sig. We have approximately the same and the sim runs very good. Don't miss the Mig-21. 1.JaVA_Platypus Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 If you can spare the patience, you can wait for the next sale. It'll be somewhere in September I think. Your system specs are okay. Happy Flying! :pilotfly:
Flycat Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 you can use your pc play mig-21 in good performance @1080p, maybe upgrade to ssd is a easy and not necessary choice(only 120g to store games and software ,that's enough) ,others hardware is enough now.
NoJoe Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 My computer is almost on par with yours and it runs the MiG-21 just fine. I'd say go for it; no reason to wait for 1.5!
OnlyforDCS Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Up until fairly recently I had a GTX760 (the rest of my specs are similar to your own) and my rig could run the Mig21 at 1080p just fine. Go for it! Jacks Posted July 28, 2015 Author Posted July 28, 2015 Thanks for all the advice. I will take the plunge once I get paid and my also buy the a mi-8 as a stable mate. I am planning on upgarding to 16Gb RAM and disabling page file and I hope to upgrade my 770 to a 4Gb gpu. I have 16 GB of RAM and none of the games use it. The only benefit of 16GB of RAM that I noticed is that loading of games for the second time takes lot less time since HDD data is buffered to RAM by Windows (I don't have an SSD). Since you already have a SSD, I don't think you will notice that big an improvement as with a new GPU.
grunf Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I have a realy crappy PC - Core 2 Duo 3GHz, Nvidia GT450, 4GB RAM (which is even below the minimum requirements :D), and yet the game runs fine on medium to high settings! I have 20-30 fps @1980x1020, with occasional stutter when close to the ground. Only when I use shkval (ka-50 and su-25t), the fps drops to the low 20s. Mig-21 doesn't have it, so no problem there.

DCS runs great no lag or anything i even run lots of programs in the background such as Autocad and Sketchup.. still runs great and no lag issues ... u can check my that even my videos run great on 60 fps ! and i use shadow play for recording ... i think u should be ok for another year or so and dcs world 2 should run even better then the current dcs .. :D | DCS World Nub's Cockpit Channel | https://www.youtube.com/NubsCockpit
Hadwell Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 (edited) When buying a new videocard, ignore how much memory it has, look at memory SPEED, and GPU SPEED, they gimic you in to buying a card with 4TB of memory(exaggeration), but that memory is useless because the actual SPEED of the card is not enough to make use of it. the next better card to the 770 would be the 970, from there, the 290x, 390x, 980, fury x, and 980ti respectively. I use a 780OC (roughly the same speed as a 970), the 21 runs more than fine with it. King_Hrothgar Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Your system is similar to mine, I get 40-60 fps depending on what's going on at max detail at 1920x1080. I can't say there is any noticeable performance difference between the MiG-21 and any other module. As for upgrades, I agree with the above about more RAM being useless. DCS + Wind8.1 won't even use 8GB, so no sense adding more. I'd also hold off on a GPU upgrade until after DCS1.5 is released. Only then will we know what the new graphics engine likes. My guess is it will be fairly happy with our GTX 770's, but it may want a 970.
