A new ATI Catalyst Suite was released this morning, 15.7.1.

I almost skipped it because I just upgraded to 15.7 the other day.

I'm glad I didn't skip this set.

I enabled the new "Virtual Super Resolution" feature and changed my DCS World resolution from 1920 x 1080 to 2560 x 1440, leaving all the eye candy at the same settings, and I picked up 5 FPS with the Warthog, even with the increased resolution.

You might want to check it out.

If it works like the Nvidia solution, it gets downsampled on the way to the monitor. The end result, in many cases, is a better image.

Yes, the image is better, plus the FPS gain.

I use a 60" HDTV together with a 27" monitor on the side. My problem with the big TV has been with text being a bit blurry, but this new feature has clarified my text a lot, and at the new, higher resolution, everything looks GREAT!

Add in a modest FPS gain, and this new set of drivers is a winner. Highly recommended.

Hmmm, I dont have the option to select Virtual Super Resolution on my main 30" monitor, but I do on my 2nd 23" touchscreen monitor????

I turned this on, and whilst it looked great, I was unable to use the mouse to click anything in the cockpit as the switches seemed offset from where the mouse cursor was pointing. Is there any other setting I need to change?

VSR uses the scaler on the GPU, in the case the first generation of GCN chips (7XXX and some further) 2560x1600 is its limit.

R9 290/hawaii is capable of 3200x1800, R9 285/tonga and R9 Fury/fiji can do 3840x2400

Of course AMD could have just implemented scaling in software but that would have an impact on performance.

I appreciate the feedback, I just dont know what it means to me for my setup? One monitor allows for it, but the other does not, so Im still confused.

Your 30" monitor already has 2560x1600 so your graphics card can't scale from any bigger resolutions for VSR since that would exceed the limits of the built in scaler.

The smaller monitor is below that resolutions.

Of course all of this is just valid for VSR, the card is perfectly capable of driving higher res monitors, you can't can't do VSR on top of it.

Just tried out the new VSR feature with the latest ATI drivers, it works great on my R9 270x:thumbup: Noticeably better picture quality with the same or even better framerate, in essence what we get is free of charge supersampling :-)

However, there is one big problem: FreeTrack is not working for me anymore :-( Once I enter a game it seems to crash since the icon is not there then I return to the taskbar. I suspect this has something to do with the changed aspect ratio in the cockpit on the higher resolution.

Has anyone noticed the same issue happening with FreeTrack or maybe also TrackIR and if there is a possible fix ?

I've been putting off this download, maybe I should get it done. I'll get back to you loaded dice, if it effects my trackIR.

Edit: TrackIR seems to be working fine still.

I'm having the same problem, any help would be appreciated.

@loaded dice - I'm using Facetracknoir and it's working with no probs.

Apparently the problem is with the HeadTracker API which is used by DCS with FreeTrack by default. Only way to solve it is to use TrackIR API instead. In old versions of DCS (32-bit) this was done with TrackIRFixer, unfortunately it seems there is no 64-bit version :(
