=Mac= Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Can't beat the TM Warthog HOTAS. I had to save and save but when I got it, I KNEW I'd never fly without it, ever again. Nothing compares. The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...

Dudikoff Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) As a long term user of Saitek products (X36, X52 Pro, X65), I think they made some good products for the price. Sure, they use some cheap components (such as rotaries on X36 and X52Pro which could spike; the rotaries on X65 work fine, though, which I guess is logical since it's more expensive), but they all lasted for me. I had a TM Cougar which I never used since the internals were poorly designed since they wear out and it was too stiff anyway. And it seems that the TM Warthog had it's share of the problems with the stick gimbal or the whole throttle unit dying down. The Saitek X65 is IMHO a quality made product. The only problems are the stiff throttle (the grease can be replaced) and the buttons don't feel of high quality, but then again, neither did the ones on the TM Cougar. Their other problem is driver support. I mean, I have no problems with the current programming software except for occasional slowdowns, but they did promise to release the upgraded SST software built for X55 to other controllers and nothing happened still. It feels worse since the MAd Catz takeover as even the forum is down IIRC. Aginor Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I do like the trackballs and the button layout actually. But I would never pre-order it. Wait for the tests. Saitek did produce some decent sticks in the past, but with the X-55 they seem to have reached their low point concerning the quality. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet
xaoslaad Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 In the presentation they said it is going to compete with Thrustmaster, I laughed so hard when I read it. I had the X-55, it was a disaster for me. Thank god I have the warthog now. I had an X-52 Pro. Nothing but problems. Especially the mouse stick on the throttle. It's great having your mouse on the desktop or TGP in-game slew to the right for no reason, to be fixed by unplugging and plugging it in a few times. Of course sometimes that just leads to a blue screen with that thing. I gave it to a friend when I bought a Warthog. He had to disable the mouse stick input because it was such a pain. I have pro combat flight pedals and they are pretty junky too. Collect lots of dirt inside. I took them apart to see what gives with the huge amount of slop in the center. It's the junk plastic parts not fitting together worth a damn. Lots of slack. I finally gave in and put myself on the list for crosswinds. Can't wait. Friends don't let friends buy Saitek.
Python Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Hated my X52 pro, won't be going saitek any time soon, although my TM Warthog has ruined me for normal joysticks. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Funny about disabling the mouse on the X52 pro. For about a 6months I would have this mouse drift the pointer at random speeds would start drifting to bottom of screen. In game surfing the web any program. Couldn't figure I out thought it was my razer mouse I thru at the wall. Went back to a Logitech mouse. Searched the web nothing. Thought maybe it was the USB hub switch things around still would some back. then I realize darn the x52 has a mouse so when it started drifting I just unplug the joystick and BAMM!! that was it. Well after about a month I got tired of unplugging and plugging so I took the stick apart took out the mouse stick and button next to it no problems since. Anyways I didn't even think to disable it that would of been a better solution. I guess my revenge was ripping it out for giving me trouble. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Tirak Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 The only problem with the Thrustmaster Warthog is that it's $300, which is as much as a computer upgrade and simply out of the budget for me and a lot of people. So as much as I dream about getting it, I'm stuck juggling between getting a new X-52Pro or going for the X-55 which has so many conflicting reviews I don't know what to think anymore.
Aginor Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 The "Star Citizen" effect waking CH? Even if that is the only positive effect of Star Citizen on the gaming community I'd be happy. :) We need more quality sticks. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet

I sympathize with that. If you can hold out and save up for the extra $150 or whatever a Warthog will cost you over an X55 I would say do it. Otherwise if you regret your decision to buy whichever now you have to add that price on top of a Warthog and it's that much more prohibitive. I have gotten to where I see every dime put into a Saitek product as money I should have put into something else and basically threw out the window into the wind. It feels bad. Very bad.
Python Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Put it this way. My x52 cost half what my TM Warthog did, maybe a little less than half. Is the Warthog twice as good? No.. It's infinitely better in every way. It is undeniably expensive, but an x52 and similar sticks are just accessories that will be chucked in a couple of years. The Warthogs a masterpiece that will be with you for many years and once you've tried it, you'll never look twice at another lower quality joystick. I appreciate it is priced like an ssd, or even a gpu upgrade, but you kind of have to put it on the same bracket as those things, it is an upgrade in every sense. If the option is there to wait and save towards it, you may wish to consider doing so, I think any of us that own it would say it is certainly worth it. Still, there are other options of course [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
