Unfortunally Norway is more likely to go for the JSF.

Hehe.....cool! :)

Reading through some of the published information regarding the Gripen proposal for Denmark, I would say that it has a lot of potential :) .

Cheers,

That thing looks mean, it would make the F-22 cry, and the F-35 to fly off farting with its fat round afterburner. The F-18 will blow up in mid-air, teh Typhoon will stall and fall like a leaf, the Su-30 will lose all tvc control and spin like a madman after seeing that thing flying around.

With all that, they would certainly need a bigger engine and a reinforced wing. It would probably have adverse effects on manouvrebility. With that kind of load, I wonder would that increase in fuel capacity be enough to increase overall range to a noticeable level? Because, I have only seen pics of Gripen carrying single Mavericks or that Swedish guided munitions dispenser at max.

i386DX40@42 MHz w/i387 CP, 4 MB RAM (8*512 kB), Trident 8900C 1 MB w/16-bit RAMDAC ISA, Quantum 340 MB UDMA33, SB 16, DOS 6.22 w/QEMM + Win3.11CE, Quickshot 1btn 2axis, Numpad as hat. 2 FPH on a good day, 1 FPH avg.

DISCLAIMER: My posts are still absolutely useless. Just finding excuses not to learn the F-14 (HB's Swansong?).

Annoyed by my posts? Please consider donating. Once the target sum is reached, I'll be off to somewhere nice I promise not to post from. I'd buy that for a dollar!

It will also depend on cost vs capability. True, the F35 is a nice aircraft, but it's also more expensive than the Gripen.

As far as I know, one of the main points for NOT buying the Gripen was that it had less range than most other competitors for the contract here in Norway (entrants: F35 JSF, F/A 18, Eurofighter, Saab Gripen and the Rafale). But with added fuel-carrying capabilities, and with the right price/Industrial-package, I wouldn't discount the Gripen. It's built to be easily serviced, which is nice since the groundcrew that service the F-16's today consist of one officer (CrewChief) and one conscripted soldier (the assistant). Ease of maintnance and the cost of this will also have a large say in what aircraft gets chosen.

Clustermunitions is just another way of saying that you don't like someone.

I used to like people, then people ruined that for me.

I also think it's not the big weapons load that would be the Gripen's main argument over the competition. Quite on the contrary. As you see how long it takes to integrate weapons on the Typhoon (shown on promotional material ten years ago), I would buy the Hornet no questions asked if it where to be about loadout.

The Gripen is a good choice for its servicability and cost-of-ownership.

The best weapon is probably the one you can afford :)
