Vandal71 Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) Now that we are getting proper ballistic calculations for moving tanks there is still one thing that DCS CA lacks. The vehicles (especially tanks) have no feeling of weight. I am a former Abrams crewman, so I have some frame of reference on what tanks feel like (I was a driver actually). In DCS you can do burnouts in tanks and actually drift them a little as well. It's completely unrealistic. I have compensated by using my HOTAS twist to steer my tank and setting the curve to smooth out the input, but sometimes I just want to use the keyboard to steer and it just jerks the tank all over the place. I think ED is getting there with the ground vehicles, they just need to feel like the big heavy behemoths that they are, to get that much closer to a satisfying armor simulation. Yeah, I misspelled vehicles in the title :) Edited September 29, 2015 by Vandal71

rrohde Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I believe that if ED wants to flesh out DCS: Combined Arms some more, they will need to include the equivalent of an AFM - only for ground vehicles. Looney Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Although I agree with the statement, ED has said that CA needs more work and is in some sort of Alpha stage I believe. More urgent IMHO is the X-ray vision AI which makes any battle against the AI overly complicated. Shaman Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 They feel right to me, knowing their quite heavy mass due to armor they carry, drifting at high speeds which is cool and terrifying. Pity we can't flip tracks up by careless speeding like on the video posted above. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
Vandal71 Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 Yap. No drift at all IRL... ${1} Link: That's not exactly the drifting I was talking about that is merely sliding in the mud being an idiot. Is that really your challenge to my critique? How many tanks have you driven? That's what I thought.... none.
VincentLaw Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I am kind of curious. Maybe the Abrams has a traction control system that prevents sliding during aggressive maneuvers at high speeds? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
piXel496 Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I am kind of curious. The T-72 in that clip, did they use the keyboard to steer? old stuff I made
Redacuragsr Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Just curious, what other types of drifting is there?
