I was planning to go on Friday, but that one got ditched, so maybe I'll go on Saturday. I live on the other side of the country, so it's either being in a huge traffic jam, or 3 hours in the train :(. And to be on time I would have to get out of my bed at 5:30, so I'm still in doubt wether I should go or not. The Red Arrows won't perform on Saturday, but I don't really care, as their performances are boring and way too by the book.

I've seen the Blues over 2 dozen times, and you're in for a treat! Best one was a low-alt show (due to overcast conditions) in Alabama a few years ago. Turnin' and burnin' low as hell right over the crowd! I'd never seen that before, and I'll remember the feeling in my chest from the engines forever!

Yes, in holland the regs are a bit stricter (not as prudish as in Germany though), even slight over the crowd passes won't be tolerated. Remember Frecce Tricolori in 2004? A solo pilot did this "Russian drunk pilot" maneuver (pitching and rolling violently over the runway, dirty), I guess, judging by the length of the plane, he was at no more than 1m from the runway when he pulled up, he dit that more than 4 times (4 or more of this sinus-like things). That dude was just crazy, as this is no "low-pass over the runway", he did violent maneuvers at no more than 15m, one miscalculation, and no ejection seat will save you, well, unless it's a K-36 (don't whine about speculating, that seat did such thing 4 times, saving 3 lives).

I'll go on Saturday, will have to travel all the way from Eindhoven, but the Angels, and the F-15E demo are worth it (angels for the aerobatics, the F-15 for the noise). I won't miss the Red Arrows, sure they fly great, they can do this Concorde formation, but they're way too much by the book, the French, and especially the Italians have greater shows. Those uptight Brits are too afraid to f**k up something. So, gimme Frecce Tricolori. :P

Oh, I'm also looking forward to the hearing damage from all those F-16s and the geat F-18 (of the flying ones, too bad the Mig-29 won't fly a demo)

Well I saw the Blue Angels live this week-end here in Quebec city (was the 2nd time I saw them) and they're always that good! They did their low altitude performance since the weather wasn't great but their performance truly was!

I just hope you guys will get good weather cause the blues aren't taking off if they don't have a ceiling of at least 1000ft. That's what happened here on saturday :( But at least we saw them sunday and the guys even postponed (sp?) the schedule of their show so that they could get better weather and perform at least once in front of us!

Oh I can hear you scream for a pic now....

And try to imagine the sound during that fly-by :D

In all honesty every USAF display I've ever seen has been really quite dull, from F-15, Thunderbirds and Superhornet. The Thunderbirds in particular were incredibly conservative. Although once did see a demonstration by a bunch of MH-53 and C-130 that was very good.

Is it at Gilze-Rijen?

No, it's in Leeuwarden ;)

So the Blue angels are conservative as well, great, now we have the Red Arrows with afterburning aircraft :(.

The greatest (that one that made me hold my breath) show was from a Ch-47D from the UK, which did this really fast snap-like maneuver, that seemed really scary to me (I was really thinking that thing was going to meet mother earth).

Too bad there won't be Harriers and Tornadoes this year, those are really great noise machines.

I'm looking forward to seeing the HIND demo as well :P Never seen a hind IRL before. Should bring back some nice operation flashpoint memories :D

Since I live around 2 miles from EHLW (Leeuwarden AFB) I'm gonna be there both days :P

Ok, I'm going as well, but I'm gonna have to sit for 3 hours in a train :(

I'm glad it's propeller time until about 10 'o clock.

BTW, hoe lang doet die peneldbus erover om bij 't vliegveld aan te komen?

EDIT: I'm not going after all, hate to spend 3 hours in a train.
