How do you kill other choppers effectively?

The best way I've found is to use the PadLock view (I don't have a TiR) and the HMS. I padlock the target while setup in A2A mode and Moving Ground Target mode (maybe it was just moving ground target?) and then hold my "designate target" button. This will cause the HMS and laser to track the target. It does not track very well. Right before I fire I hit the "Lock Target" button which ranges the target and I can fire.... I've made four A2A kills with HE cannon rounds this way. I've found the best probability of a hit is to catch the enemy chopper as it's changing direction so I get a small window where it's moving mostly straight away from me.

Is there a better way?

I can't seem to get an actual target lock on an enemy chopper if I try to just slew the laser into the target and lock them like I would with a ground target. It gets range but doesn't lock.

I even setup a mission with 2 Mi8's about 2Km out heading the same direction as me and tried to simply just lock the laser on them... No luck at all even at very close range.

So what am I missing?

Nvidia RTX3080 (HP Reverb), AMD 3800x

Asus Prime X570P, 64GB G-Skill RipJaw 3600

Saitek X-65F and Fanatec Club-Sport Pedals (Using VJoy and Gremlin to remap Throttle and Clutch into a Rudder axis)

For starters, the Ka-50 is not an A2A platform. :)

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Find them first...

if thats not the case well it depends if its an AI or human pilot that u are fighting aginst.

So you need AA mode on. If your target is on a intercept course then you need the head on button on as well...

Set salvo to med. this will let you fire 2 viks. If its a human pilot have the laser on stnby and turn it on at 3-4km. For a better lock increase the target box size....

And its better to use AP rounds on them.....

Did he nail them while taxiing on the ground? :P

love playing online eagle had no ammrams looks at a distance IR warning goes of his sidewinder did some damage but strafed it while using flairs, then he stalls trying to out turning me instead of getting inertia to escape from cannon range. he stalled the f-15c and crashed, I flew back to the airfield.

Slow movers like other choppers are easy preys for the kamov's cannon as long as you can get in their 6 or 12. Even in manual mode. And the latest patch for 1.2 improved a lot the effectiveness of the HE bullets. For other type of target evolutions, the a/a mod with a solid lock on the engines is helping a lot to shoot down a flying chopper. Trying to shoot anything faster is just a dream or, if you succeed, a very lucky day.

I have tons of A2A kills in the Ka50, against both rotary and jets. The Ka50 is extremely versatile, and does very well in A2A combat. There is no warnings or countermeasures for the Vikhr :)

In A2A combat with other choppers, don't even bother with Vikhrs unless you are in a SAM infested area. Get in close and use S8KOM or guns, and use your standby reticle for the HUD. I don't even bother locking them or lasing them. If you don't use your laser on them, they will never know you're there.
