Since the aerial refueling is one of the hardest thing in dcs, almost none of the pilots bother using this feature , especially online play.

i think it is needed, because, lots of pilots don't want to get back to the base and refuel. instead doing this, they eject and get a new plane. so, although easy refuel is not realistic (have no idea in real life, and if it is that hard, it would be my nightmare if i was a pilot) it is more realistic than ejecting a plane imho. of course it could be disabled according to mission owner taste.

I would prefer they did not add "easy air refuel", it makes people lazy. Just my opinion, but this is a flight simulator and although you aren't able to feel the movement of the aircraft it is as realistic as possible. It forces people to become better pilots, and train constantly to perfect tasks like these. Air refueling is one of the hardest tasks a pilot will do, second only to landing on a carrier at night.

Keep training and practicing, you will soon be a champ at air refueling!

My thoughts exactly. I also still struggle with air refueling, but it just needs practice and so I'm happy about every oprtunity I get to try it. Adding an easy-AAR feature will indeed just make people lazy.

If there really are people who just ditch their plane and spawn in a new one to avoid RTBing, then I think that's stupid behaviour and should be prohibited. In the A good example is the Blue Flag campaign where the lives are limited, so you need to try to keep your bird alive.

pilots eject when their fuel is run out, they eject when their ammo is run out, you can not make them perform ar.

personally, i have naver performed ar during online mission. because i usually can't survive to spend whole fuel. but if i try to do it, most likely other pilots who are in the queue, would run out of fuel while waiting for me to do it correctly

When we fly missions in the 132nd, air refueling is very common for us. When I started with DCS, air to air refuel was close to impossible for me. After some practice, it will become natural and it's not that hard, unless you have engine damage or heavy wind. For me, the driving point of the game is immersion. Ejecting because I run out of fuel or ammo, where is the fun in that?

I agree with those of you that are proponents of AAR as it now exists. It was nearly impossible for me at first, but after an embarrassing amount of practice time in both the A10C and the F15, I got the hang of it....not perfect but passable. Having said that, I do see the other side of the argument. I started out in flight sims using auto-start which I can't imagine using now.....I HATE autostart. The community is so small as it is, I would endorse anything that would include more folks to join.....which is what is great about the Flaming Cliffs aircraft. There are MP groups that take things seriously and those that do not. I fall heavily on the serious side, but I think there is room for all.........KUMBAYA!!!

If I may offer a tip to those who are struggling...... Practice formation flying with the tanker. Forget about trying to make a connection until you are comfortable holding a solid formation. It seems difficult at first but there will be less pressure on you....you get used to watching the tanker.......Be sure your aircraft is trimmed and make constant, small adjustments to maintain your position. Spend some time practicing this. Once you feel more confident, move over to the boom and don't fixate on the boom but focus on your position relative to the tanker. With the F15 you can't focus on the boom anyway. At the very least, it will make you a better formation pilot, even if you don't master refueling.

Well you technically could "make them" perform a2a refuel. Thru mission editor take all the fuel away from the airfields and fill their aircraft 1/4 full. Then they would have no choice but to a2a refuel :) That's also a great way to get rid of the trolls from MP servers.

p.s. remember "get the bird in the cage", AND DON'T PUT A DEATH GRIP ON YOUR HOTAS. Just relax and enjoy the ride...

I would rather something be done about ejecting when out of ammo or fuel than have easy AA refueling. I can only connect for a couple of seconds at most when I try, but I like the challenge and realism and that's why most people play this game.

I don't do AAR yet, but when I do, I don't want an easy mode. The challenge and rising to it is what makes it satisfying.

This discussion reminds me of KSP when docking was introduced. The same arguments about it being too hard started disappearing once people got the hang of it and guides and tips started coming out to help those who couldn't get it.

I use it when using the F-15C and A-10C, the key to A2A Refueling is practice. Just like Gun runs, bomb deployment, and landing. Remember there is 0 balancing in DCS.
