Thanks much for the feedback gang, am going to give serious consideration to maybe a 10cm extension. Going to have to do some careful measuring and thinking this thing through...

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it.

Going to have to give this some careful thought, I am curious about the other guy's shorter extensions, like the 80 mm. Not sure how much improvement though I might see in something like that, or how feasible it might be to use on my desk.

My Warthog stick does sit on a slide out flat panel in my desk, which sits below the desktop by maybe 2 to 2.5 inches. Actually my desk has the same slide out panel on the left side as well, which I have my throttle sitting on. One of the main reasons I wanted this desk was for that.

I used an 80mm extension before I got my FSSB R3. It worked wonders for lessening the center hump going from one side to the other. I had the stick resting on the chair between my legs and placed my legs on the flat stick base to hold it down. The stick sat at the perfect height, where I could rest my arm on my leg and grasp the stick. It does take out the stiction, although I did take mine apart and regrease it throughly. The other advantage is you can easily offset the stick to the left while maintaining straight pitch control.

You would probably have to adjust the height placement of your stick if you have it on a slide out tray.

Here is a link to the person I bought mine from.

I have a tube of Dupont Teflon grease for and sticking joystick partsparts. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants to grease anything that moves. I use it for Airsoft gearbox treatment and my x55 stick. Doesn't attack plastic.

Anything with a Rotary Wing is fun and challenging.

Use SRS radio.

Hmm, you know I am thinking that might just work for me as well and be the best solution. Played around with setting the joystick between my legs, I can see with an extension that may well work for me also...

Thanks,

I have the stick on a small stool between my legs as well and it's perfect height so I can put my normal computer chair over the stick base to hold it down. It's perfectly stable this way and very comfortable with 75 mm extension.

I have to wonder if I did this with the stick resting on my chair and legs holding it down, would operating the rudder pedals maybe interfere with it?

I currently have the Saitek Combat Pedals, but will be receiving the MFG Crosswind pedals hopefully in late December.

It might interfere, yes. It has to be stable, that's why it's better to either have the stick on some solid base, like a small stool or something, but which does not move, or some kind of stick base that other people build for it. I use a stool, but it would not be stable if not my chair (the part where I sit to be exact) was not over the stool and pinning down the wide stick base to the stool.

There are different ways to do it, but if you use your legs to pin it down then I think you won't be able to use the rudder effectively.

PS. Hey, I also have the MFG ordered with December delivery :)

Exciting times!

Thanks for the feedback, I may just order an extension and just find a way to make it work lol.

It definately helps. But I'm starting to prepare mentally for regreasing it as well anyway to make it perfectly smooth. But I'm still hesitating and afraid that I can break something in the process...Probably being too careful but I'll postpone it and observe the stick. If the stiction (which is still there just less noticeable with the extension) gets worse in the next couple of months then I'll just open the stick and regrease.

Yeah that is kind of my problem, I would like to but I have read about it along with watching the videos, and due to a health condition I now have I lost much of my sight, and I just don't think I can do it - at least successfully.

I think the extension would be the best solution for me.

I guess it depends on what you fly. I fly the A-10C and other then takeoff and landing, my feet aren't on the pedals

True, currently though I am spending all my time in the KA-50.

A-10C will be next on my list to learn , but I have a long way to go with the KA-50 so am sure I will be in it for a while.

Main reason I am really noticing the stiction, lining up those two small concentric circles to aim the rockets is no easy task, that is where I really notice the stiction.

Actually, you should try the exercises in this thread:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=140143

Even in the A-10 you could have good use of the rudder.

It helps diminish the loss of energy in turns, and makes for smoother flying overall.

I bought my TM Warthog brand new and even out of the box I was experiencing "stickion". I ordered the 120mm extension mod from here:

https://sites.google.com/site/warthogextension/

and it has complete resolved this issue. And my stick looks pretty impressive too. So does my TM Warthog... ;)

How do you guys determine the length you want, just measure and try to guess which will work best for you?

Well, I figured I'd try the shortest one since that's the one recommended for jet planes by some other guys. As far as I know, the longer ones are better for helicopters and middle size for prop planes. I mostly fly jets and some WWII planes so I thought 75mm will be enough for me. And it is I think. 10cm and more would be too long for my setup and also the centering of the stick may be a bit too weak for my taste.

Thanks for the feedback Endy,

Well I am flying the KA-50, but after I get somewhat proficient with it and do some campaign flying, to also get into the A-10C to be followed after that with WWII planes.

So maybe I need more than one LOL. Maybe I should order the middle one, 80mm I think.

Actully, they range from around 75mm to perhaps 20 mm. But for you, I'd try perhaps with the 10cm one. It should be a good compromise.

I got the info from the link posted above by Maulkin,

Extension is available in three lengths:

  1. 80 mm ~ 3.15 inches
  2. 100 mm ~3.94 inches
  3. 120 mm ~4.72 inches

Ok I think I see where you got yours from Endy, plus I see he is offering them in black, so think I will go with that one.

Going to do some more thinking on the size I want...

I got one from China, which turned out to be quite good:

20150914_202219.jpg?dl=1

The top and bottom pieces are quality made black aluminum, while the middle is carbon tube.

All extremely lightweight, and looks and works good. :)

The included cable was of good quality too.

I got it in AliExpress.

Link to the long version (150 mm), which I got, here:

He sells a shorter version (110 mm) as well:

I preferred the one from WarthogExtension because it is made of stainless steel and looked like a very high quality setup. I can confirm now that I have one that it is in fact a very high quality setup.

One additional perk (which I assume would apply to all extension mods you might get) is that I can offset the center of the stick. This is important if you are center-mounting the stick in your lap. Trying to hold the stick with it centered would start to hurt the wrist trying to get at all buttons and switches. So I have mounted the stick on the mod with it rotated slightly counter-clockwise.

The thing I really love about this setup is that it so easy to take my right hand off the stick and fly with my left hand while operating the mouse with my right.
