Fri13 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 The new main menu animated background causes huge impact to performance, causing impossible or near impossible to log-in or adjust anything in menus that shows the background animation. The background is like 7-10fps and every fan in PC will go to full throttle and CPU and GPU gets eaten alive (based the system monitors) by highly raising temperatures. I have two installations in both two PC. Stand-alone and Steam (so Steam AND stand-alone are installed to both computers, totaling 4 installations). Both updated to latest OpenBeta that is available to both. Both installations are verified by integration checks. The stand-alone manages to get inputs when waiting enough time between clicks (like 4-6 seconds) and Steam edition doesn't respond to anything, requiring to force quit the DCS. The used resolutions are the UHD (3480x2160) and FHD (1920x1080) and the FHD is little better on stand-alone but not on Steam edition on either computer. PC 1 specs (no need for system information file) AMD 8350 (8-core, 4Ghz) Nvidia 760 Ti OC 2GB UHD display (aka home 4K) 16GB RAM SSD PC 2 specs (no need for system information file) AMD X4 640 (4-core, 2.2Ghz) Nvidia 750 Ti OC 2GB UHD display (aka home 4K) 8GB RAM SSD Recommendation is that the animated background will be removed by default (enable by the settings if wanted) as it is far more resource hungry than the DCS itself (Stand-alone managed to be launched to simulation) at any point. If wanted to make a fancy menu background, just use a slideshow where some nice wallpapers are changed smoothly in time periods (like every 15 seconds) or make that background as video file that is then looped. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
droopy114 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Hi, i have a performance hit too with the default menu theme, FPS are locked at 30, making the mouse very jerky (my spec: I5 4690K, GTX 970, 8Gb RAM, Windows 10), so i just switch to another one. BTW, i think 2Gb of VRAM is not enough for 4K resolution.
Svend_Dellepude Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Just choose a wallpaper from a module and prob solved. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Win10 64, Asus Maximus VIII Formula, i5 6600K, Geforce 980 GTX Ti, 32 GB Ram, Samsung EVO SSD.

To get switched it requires configuring settings lua and then starting, swapping theme and return back to full resolution. And the 2GiB VRAM is enough... ;-) 60-100fps with everything else max than disabled depth of field, anti-alias (not needed at all with UHD) and texture sharpening (still it drops FPS with 1.5 like on 1.2 when lots of bombs explode etc, no matter of resolution.) Can get great video recording as well with Nvidia Shadow Play feature etc. The main default theme just is terrible performance killer. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.

I can switch my default theme to another one, in the misc tab of the graphics options, and it remains as my theme unless I change it again. Maybe I am misunderstanding? Fri13 Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 I can switch my default theme to another one, in the misc tab of the graphics options, and it remains as my theme unless I change it again. Maybe I am misunderstanding? The default theme that is since 1.5 released is the animated one with clouds going on like flying trough skies. It kills the performance so you can't do anything in the menu when you launch DCS. So no way to close login screen, login or get settings open. So to get usable main menu, config lua file needs to be edited manually for lowest possible resolution that respond and then launch DCS and go to misc and change the theme from default to one of the old ones (module specific). The theme doesn't change after that, so you just misunderstood. :-) The problem is just that new default theme is unacceptable performance killer and can even cause total inoperable menu. Changing the theme is like night and day and speeds up loading and everything. droopy114 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Well ok just understanding, he used lua files because the animated main menu is the default one and couldn't do anything because of screen freeze.
Fri13 Posted November 8, 2015 Author Posted November 8, 2015 Well ok just understanding, he used lua files because the animated main menu is the default one and couldn't do anything because of screen freeze. Exactly, the background keeps going, mouse is totally smooth but no inputs is taken with anything or things are ultra laggy like it takes 4-5 seconds to get input trough. Just getting the theme switched makes everything perfect. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
