DCS 1.5.1 added customized cockpit feature to support user created cockpit textures for all modules

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2546251&postcount=7

Here I briefly introduce how to add customized cockpit textures for each module

* in current 1.5.1, all modules should work now

1. Create folder for customized texture

In 'Mods/aircraft/xxx/Liveries/Cockpit_xxx/', there should be 'default' folder. It is used for default cockpit texture (e.g. Su-27/25/33's RU pit, Bf109/Fw190's DE pit)

To add user created texture, you need:

1.1 Create a folder with proper name (e.g. 'customHD') beside 'default' folder;

1.2 The folder name (e.g. 'customHD') will appear in the drop-down list in Option->Special->Module Tab

1.3 Put all the modified dds/bmp/tga files into created folder

attachment.php?attachmentid=127109&stc=1&d=1447279096

attachment.php?attachmentid=127111&stc=1&d=1447279097

2. Prepare description.lua

Then, you need to add a 'description.lua' to tell DCS which texture files should be loaded from the folder instead of default.

Currently, only Ka-50, L-39, MiG-15 supply both RU & EN cockpit that you can get the 'description.lua' from 'english' folder. For other modules, there is no such description.lua, and the one in 'default' folder only contains a few lines regarding the mirror or completely empty.

So I extract the material names for those module cockpit and create corresponding description.lua files.

What you need to learn about the 'description.lua':

1st column is material name

2nd column is the layer (see this http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1647620&postcount=4)

3rd column is the texture file name (can ignore the filename extension)

4th column 'false': load texture file locally; 'true': load texture file from default zip

What you need to do:

2.1 Comment all lines

2.2 Uncomment lines that require your modified texture files

2.3 Set last column as 'false'

2.4 for 2nd column, usually set to '0';

attachment.php?attachmentid=127114&stc=1&d=1447279912

3. Select in the Option->Special, and enjoy

Excellent, thanks Uboats.

Is there a way to get this to work using a file location in the saved games set up? It makes sense to me to keep as much mod work separated from the main installation.

tried, not work. Could be the limitation of the script that does not check the lfs

great new feature.

Is there a way to put alternativ cockpit in the "user files", as we can do with conventional skins ?

For the Mi-8MTV2 I have used the Devrim Cockpit and the description.lua from the Chinese Cockpit.

Works perfect.

Thanks!

I´ve tried the one provided in the zip but it doesn´t work for the Hip.

RicardoHD and Horse of War for the KA-50 and A-10C work perfect with the attached lua with a pair of tweaks in the name of the files.

Regards.

My Mi8 is almost working perfectly with Devrim English Cockpit.

But Im having Problems with the Mirror Textures. Theres an replacement texture (like missing texture) on the mirrors. I have this setting in the description.lua

-- {"mirror_mi8", 0, "mirror_mi-8", false};

I followed your instructions to the Letter and the f-15C version is not working. I'm including a zip file of the edited code for you to test. But no matter what I do the code never works

Unfortunately same results no change in Cockpit Liveries(still showing default)

Now I'm using flaming cliffs f-15c. Not the beta f-15c.

If you can zip the HD folder on your laptop maybe it's the way I set up the folder on my end.

can you attach your lua file please?

so if I understand correctly, the customized cockpit works for FC3 - f15c not dedicated f-15c?

ok, I think you may need to wait for next OB update.

sorry for this issue

Hi U-boats,

I tried to create a mod loaded via JSGME using your description.lua and Devrim's Su-25T files as you have in your example above for an English cockpit.

I couldn't get it to work. The mod loaded ok but the cockpit was still in Russian but with graphic corruption.

Can you put together an example for the Su-25T and upload it somewhere where I cn take a look at it? (Files are apparently too big to attach here)

Thanks.

I'm anxious to see the update to see where I'm going wrong.

My attempt looks very much like your KA-50 "Ricardo" that loads via JSGME. For the life of me I can't see the problem.
