Difficulty level in mission 1

Hey Folks,

 

who else believes that the level of difficulty in the first campaign is too high? gosh those SU 25s seemed like F15s and the missile miss ratio was way too high...

I got my ass kicked in this mission, too. I thought it was just a familiarization mission like in those built-in campaigns. But bandits popped out. Su-25 are armored and hard to kill. They killed me with R-60.

Let's see, there are four bandits in this mission. You guys forget to use the wingman!!! Order the wingman to kill one of the bandits. You target one of the other bandits from long range. Kill him, then use a heat seeking fire-and-forget R-27ET for the third bandit, and the last one you can either use your wingman again or go guns on him. Also, you should deploy flares pre-emptively. That R-60 will never hit you if you deploy flares pre-emptively.

 

If you fail in this mission, you really need to start practicing more.

I too had this problem the first time I tried. Their chaff/flares are very effective. The second time when I knew they were coming, they got ambushed with ET's from the mountains to the north and haven't really thought about it after. I think one of the reasons is the overconfidence going into combat thinking 'they're just Su-25s and I'm in a 27, it's going to be a piece of cake'. However, since it's a 2vs4, if you get into a merge and target one, another one is bound to get on your tail and fire of an R-60, especially if your wingman is far away. My tip would be to pick them off at a fairly long range with R-27s, since they completely lack BVR capability.

I think mission one should be adjusted. The su25's pop up near you out of nowhere. The whole mission until the su25's come is nice but then the immersion is just gone and the whole thing is down the toilet.

I actually never got further then mission 1 because each time i try the mission the Su25's just randomly appear like magic on top of you..... and then im done (frustration).

 

I would like to see this fixed. Because at the moment i kinda regret buying the campaign.

As soon as you see this message pop up they have magically spawned on location. So beware :mad:

 

 

The easiest way to deal with the situation is to stay around the lake part of the map as shown in my screenshot. From that point you have enough space between you and the enemy Su'25's to order your wingman to engage and set your own targets with 27ER's before going IR visual merge.

Some quick questions for ED about the mission.

 

1 - Why arent the enemy Su25's departing from an airport like any other plane in the mission? (they fly back to one)

2 - Are there more missions with this system? (random appear near you in the sky)

3 - Why was this scripted this way?

4 - Can this be adjusted in a patch please?

Thank god I'm not alone! I thought I was the only one who sucked and for the first mission in this campaign it's kinda tuff yea. I managed to get my long rng missile system working but the 27s never seem to get hit. I did complete the hard part after a bagillion restarts and deaths but blew the landing and Kunz is right! Your Bandits help you! Also what I did was just as I was being swamped with SU 27s I used my short range missiles to jag a couple and then I high tailed outta there! dodging missiles and releasing flares and chaff continuous but It is frustrating. If this is the first mission... what's the rest like?

Ok gents, I give up on this campaign. Haven't been playing DCS for some time now, so I am a bit surprised how effective are chaff all of a sudden. I sent my wingman to engage while we are still in BVR. He fires... misses... I fire 3x r27er, 1x r27et and finally 1x r73... and they all obediently go for a chaff or a flare. I mean, really?

I enjoyed it. Briefings must be followed closely. I had to retry most of the missions twice. Some even more than that. If it was easy I wouldn't have enjoyed it.... The time it would take me to learn how to create missions like that was worth the price of admission by a long shot. 25 cents worth from a newbie.
