Jester Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Have noticed on the Nevada shooting range the SAI seems to be accumulating massive errors, leading to it sometimes showing complete inverted flight etc. even when the helo is at a steady hover
rud Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) I haven't noticed this yet myself despite spending a lot of time in the Ka-50 on the new map. Just checking, are you starting from the ramp or with everything already running? If starting from the ramp are you engaging the SAI power switch early enough for it to spin up to full speed? I don't know how long it's supposed to take but I've always assumed it's a few minutes, I usually engage the SAI switch prior to starting the API and then uncage the SAI after turning the AC generators on. Edit: I should have checked before I posted, now that I'm paying more attention to the SAI it's definitely accumulating errors way quicker than it used to. Edited December 10, 2015 by rud

The SAI in the Ka-50 (etc) has always drifted, you think it's faster in NTTR ? Cheers.
ShuRugal Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I stopped flying with the SAI uncaged back in 1.1, it turns itself inverted within 30 minutes, so why bother? 1

chromium Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 IRL should be used only when ADI does not work properly, AFAIK. Author of DSMC, mod to enable scenario persistency and save updated miz file Stable version & site: https://dsmcfordcs.wordpress.com/ Openbeta: https://github.com/Chromium18/DSMC The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.
Luzifer Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Good thing you have an ejection seat then, because if your ADI breaks in bad visibility you'd be dead otherwise. Seriously, with that high drift accumulated in just a few minutes of regular flight and apparently no self-erecting mechanism whatsoever, the SAI is worse than useless.
