DD_Crash Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Is the TM Warthog and MFDs compatible with USB 3 ports? Any issues?
DD_Crash Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 I found this thread so it looks good to me :) http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=118367
hansangb Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I'd stick with USB2. For me, the MFDs sometimes blink on and off when plugged into USB3 hub. Move it to a USB 2.0 hub, and it's fine. And with folks having trouble updating on USB3, I'd stick with USB2. It's not as if TM needs the added BW that USB3 brings to the table. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

This - save those valuable USB3 ports for devices that can benefit from the bandwidth, they will do nothing for the WH that a USB2 port can't do. Livers Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I've been using my stick and throttle through a switched 4-port 3.0 hub for a month, no problems yet. FWIW, that hub is fed with external power and via 2.0 motherboard port.
slicker55 Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 As it happens only yesterday I contacted Tech Support to discuss a different issue and the technician actually mentioned a few things about USB. First, I need to explain that I ran into quite a few problems with my Saitek X-55 and Combat Pedals when I first upgraded my motherboard to the X-99 platform. Everything had worked fine before the upgrade but there are some well documented USB connectivity issues that I wasn't aware of until running into these problems myself. To cut a long story short, I eventually got everything to work by installing a PCIe USB 2.0 card and connecting this to a powered USB hub. For some strange reason, using the onboard USB 2.0 ports simply didn't fix the issues I was having. (system wouldn't POST and/or freeze before OS loaded). So, back to yesterday, I mentioned this to the technician and he advised against using USB hubs as this can lead to data lag and corruption. He also stated that the controllers should be connected using USB 2.0 ports. i7-5820K 3.30Ghz | Asus X99-S | Sapphire R290X | R7 240 | 16GB DDR4 PC4 2800MHz | Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD (OS) | Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SSD (DCS) | Noctua NH-D14 2011 Cooler | OCZ ZT 750W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular PSU | NZXT Phantom Enthusiast | 3 x IIyama Prolite E2473HDS 24" | 1 x Dell S2240T 21.5" Touch Screen | Windows 10 64-Bit | AMD Eyefinity 5760 x 1080 | TrackIR5 | TM Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind 1771 | Vaicom Pro + VA (Licensed) | Sennheiser Game Zero | Honeycomb Yoke (June 2020)]

I have had a look on the NaturalPoint forum and didnt see any posts about USB 3 issues so it looks like that will be on a USB 3 as well

dburne Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I ordered mine in October and they have just been produced and shipping today. Actually it is a considerably faster turn around ( 2 months) than it was earlier. Not long ago guys were waiting for several months. I ordered mine on 10/22. FeistyLemur Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Mines plugged into a USB3 capable hub, but the hub itself is plugged into a USB2 port. It works fine that way for what it's worth. Honestly never tried it in a USB3 port because it seemed like asking for it.
MPK Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I found that using the controls worked fine with USB3.0. However when I started experimenting with the target code to write custom logic for the lights on the throttle base, I saw a significant delay in lighting or extinguishing the LEDs when using USB3.0. The LEDs responded immediately when using USB2.0. I never worked out what the problem could be, so I have my controls connected via USB2.0 ports for now.
SnorreSelmer Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) I got my Warthog stick and throttle around summer 2014. I have both plugged into a USB hub, and in my experience, plugging the hub into a USB3 port is bad. It works fine a lot of the time, but sometimes I see the lights on the throttle blink off and on again at random intervals. What happens is that the throttle loses connection to the PC for a few seconds and is discovered again. Incredibly frustrating. After moving the hub to a USB2 port I've had no problems at all. And yes, I have tried plugging the TMWH into the USB3 directly with the same result. ASUS has decided (in their infinite wisdom) to sell a motherboard with a ton of onboard USB headers and nothing to plug in them. I happened to have one USB2 and one USB3 backplate adapter lying around, but I'm REALLY lacking USB-ports atm... DD_Crash Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 Thanks for the replies, I would be surprised if TM hadnt thoroughly tested their hardware on USB3 but the MDFs are quite an old design so they are going on USB2
hansangb Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 I don't think USB3 was around when the TM Warthog was released.
