ErichVon Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Has anybody playing DCS combat flight sim experienced seizures while playing the sim or awhile afterwards not playing at the time? I have searched the DCS forums, I have not encountered anybody reporting same. I have been encountering some kind of seizure since October 2014 awhile after playing the sim. Does not occur while playing. I have been off game all week to try to isolate what's going on. I will be not playing the sim for awhile. I am age 64. Never had this problem before. Been playing DCS since the Warthog came out of its beta. I am seeing a neurologist. Thanks for any and all replies.
Sabre-TLA Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 I've not experienced anything like that (I'm 52) however you may want to review this website for information related to your symptoms: http://www.epilepsy.com/learn/triggers-seizures/photosensitivity-and-seizures It says: Examples of Triggers Seizures in photosensitive people may be triggered by exposure to some of the following situations: Television screens or computer monitors due to the flicker or rolling images. Certain video games or TV broadcasts containing rapid flashes or alternating patterns of different colors. Best to check with your doctor to see what is going on. Dodly Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) i think i also experiencing some effects from playing sims-getting dizzy while trying to sleep after playing, sometimes im getting "flashs" also while trying to sleep, and might wake up in the morning with dry mouth and white tungue.. im limiting myself to one hour a day for now and if it dosent help i might stop playing alltogther. i think you are doing the right thing by stop playing for a while,it just dosent worth it from my experience i know the doctors dont always know what to do,and i think its good you try to understand for yourself what is the reason for that. also asking for gods help is always good hiking in nature in the fresh air can be a nice hobby, you can challenge yourself by navigating using only map and compass ;) Edited December 26, 2015 by Dodly My rig:I7 4970 3.5 GHZ,GTX 970,16G RAM,MSFFS2
Spasticatedtoad Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 I suffer from 'Flicker Seizures' ( at times ) many times a day. I have not had many opportunities to fly on DCS World since upgrading to 1.5. But I will make some time in the next 24 hours to give it a great go. Is there are particular module you notice symptoms with. I own almost all modules and will focus on the one you notice the most problems while flying. If it's a helicopter, I can almost guarantee that is what you may be experiencing as well. For me, I suddenly feel very sick and dizzy and suddenly sweat like I am on Trial. I also slur my words and forget everything I was doing for anywhere up to 30 minutes after. I can not play some games that involve Police Chases or First Person Shooters without some affect. To compensate, I don't play in a dark room and always make sure to have a light on, as it reduces any Flashing Effects from the screen. Do check with your Doctor as Thyroid problems can also cause some symptoms that are similar. If it's Flicker Seizures, then I'm really sorry to say that there is very little that can be done about it as it is not Technically an Epileptic Seizure, so medication will not do anything to alleviate it. I sure hope you can track down what is causing you an issue and nail it down soon. If I experience any of the same problems while flying, I'll let you know. I generally tend to be very sensitive to flashing lights, so if I don't get it, there's a good chance it's not Flicker Seizures. PM me if you have any questions and I will be happy to help out in any way I can. Flicker Seizures suck.

Drag0nWIng Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 I think maybe it's a problem about fov and fps. If the fov and fps got wrong, I will feel dizzy, when I played first person shooter game. And I always set my mouse sensitive at low level in order to move the camera slowly. And in dcs there are some weird and strange camera position, I think ED should limited it, because it's not realistic and make some people feel bad. And as snowsniper said, the shake of control panel is also not good,,, wish you good health :)

ineth Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 hello, i am Martin 45 and even though i got no seizures or so there are some games, DCS NOT included, that cause me nautia. The games are FPS like Quake and Far Cry but not other FPS;s or other games. I am partly working on a high g's enviroment (motorcycle tester) and i got absolutely no real world issues. I am mentioning this because maybe for some reason certain gamer stimulate a certain part of our brains and we got different problems from other players. I would look elswere to be honest. If you wish to give DCS a go though i suggest playing in a well lit room for a start. As an athlete i strongly suggest a diet high on minerals too. Be well man. Greek/German origin. Flying sims since 1984. Using computers since 1977. Favored FS's:F/A18 Interceptor, F19 Stealth Fighter, Gunnship, F16 Combat Pilot, Flight of the Intruder, A320, Falcon 4.0, MSFS 2004-X, DCS
TomOnSteam Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Hey guys, since we are talking about brain health I'd like to recommend a book for those that have gotten to an age where taking care of your health is becoming a part of your life. The book is called Power Foods for the Brain by Dr. Neal Barnard. For the average person the brain can shrink up to 17% as you age, and if you follow the science(real science i.e. independent peer reviewed research, references etc) backed advise in this book you can completely and quite easily reverse this brain killing process. Typically 50% of people get some for of dementia once they reach 80, forget where they live, don't recognise their wife and kids. Really awful stuff. However this book explains how you can lower that 50% to almost nothing. (It explains why people in Okinawa, Japan do rarely get dementia) (I'm not associated with the book in anyway, I'm a health nut as well as a DCS nut) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cockpit Spectator Mode
Irregular programming Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 snip It's epilepsy, not bad memory. Has anybody playing DCS combat flight sim experienced seizures while playing the sim or awhile afterwards not playing at the time? Been playing DCS since the Warthog came out of its beta. I am seeing a neurologist. Thanks for any and all replies. I've had epilepsy for almost 16 years now, luckily it's medicated and it was several years since my last seizure. I also know two others who suddenly developed it as adults for no reason. I've never had any issues playing DCS or any other video games for that matter, even if I strongly dislike blinking lights (because of it?). If it's just epilepsy, and not something else, then there is lots of good medication for it, and most don't have any or very little issues after getting one that suits you. Good luck.
TomOnSteam Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) The dementia was only an example in the book(dementia is hardly bad memory either). While I don't know much about epilepsy I know it's got something to do with the brain (and the conversation was going on about general brain stuff). Taking good care of the brain is only a good thing regardless.
