jonss Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I have considerable experience in flight sims. On my system is FSX, P3D's to v3. I have many aircraft for these sims, at considerable cost. One of my favourites is the RealAir Mk IX Spitfire. It never used to bother me there was no gun. Now, with the world in the turmoil it's in? I just wanna kill something. DCS is sensational. So is the A10C. Jon

Make sure you do not miss any of the ww2 birds in DCS - nothing, RealAir, A2A included, can even compare to the level of detail of their flight dynamics modeling... Nothing! Enjoy! BaD CrC Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Funny. I was exactly like you until 2008 when Blackshark came out. Owned every single FS since FS2, gigabytes of addons, scenery, aircraft, sounds, cockpits, hundreds of flight hours spent ... I didn't relaunched FS or anything else but DCS for the last 7 years https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden
dburne Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I didn't relaunched FS or anything else but DCS for the last 7 years That is pretty much where I am now, do not see a need really at this point for any other flight sims. It's all aspects of DCS that add to the realism and immersion. Jon
msalama Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 +1 The same old story here. FS9, IL-2 & assorted FPSs for years, then BS1 from the beginning. Which then resulted in giving everything else the boot pretty soonish it has to be said ;) Just wish we had a better ATC in DCS, but all in good time I suppose... The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.

Vivoune Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Well, FSX and P3D to name only those have been bogged down in their own tech for a decade, painfully trying to make do with outdated code while breaking the least possible amount of 3rd party addons as it's what they thrives on. I won't talk about FSX cause that's a dead-end for a long time development-wise, but P3D for exemple aren't really interested in pushing their project too hard nor be at the spearhead of air simulation. They are supported by fanthusiasts that for the most part will spend hundreds of euros/dollars on minor updates every now and then because it's their passion. Eagle Dynamics is of course also supported by passionate people and I won't and can't talk in ED's name, but obviously they are more interested in marketing their product just right while still staying at the top of their game, take and keep their lead on the market segment they're targeting, modern (and soon to be WW2) combat simulation. So yes, between ED and other sims like FSX & P3D it's night and day, not to take anything from ED since they're incredible and I still haven't found any other sim that has such fidelity & realism, but it might not be as much of ED being awesome as the other competitors being allowed, encouraged even, to rest on their laurels because of their community. zcrazyx Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Welcome comrade ;), i have to agree with you, i flew fsx for a long time, it was good for commercial flights but lacked military things such as firing at other aircraft. My first plane brought for DCS was the MIG-21Bis and the MIG 15Bis both of which i have fell in love with and enjoy every second flying, would recommend them if you have someone to fly with or against, the flight models are superb - glorious even and i highly enjoy the tense dogfights against other players while in those aircraft. :) The first picture was me surviving a strike from an A-10C and the second is me getting the MIG-21 to 71k Feet :)

I still enjoy the more placid forms of flight sims and earlier should have mentioned XPlane 10 is installed as well. I'm hoping to concentrate on some cutting edge in DCS . I so hope someone is writing a SU34 for the hangar. I'm saving like mad for a set of crosswind pedals and a Warthog HOTAS. I have the X52 (old stick and throttle). I'm wading through the setup for both global and aircraft for this HOTAS but apparently a DCS profile is already loaded with the new Warthog HOTAS...and it looks heaps cooler than my X52. The Crosswinds because they are a thing of beauty. Over the past 2 months I have heavily research russian aircraft. As we speak and around the world, the mig 21 is still being flown in conflicts. A testament to its ruggedness and design. Freaking pretty quick, too for an old design. Jon Edited December 23, 2015 by jonss
Vivoune Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Dovetail has been patching FSX, its not exactly "deadcode" anymore. True, a few touches here and there in order to fix a few issues with modern hardware. They also signed a contract with Microsoft stating that they aren't allowed to modify FSX in any major way. This is merely a licensing agreement to be able to bring FSX on Steam so they (Dovetail) can better market upcoming 3rd party addons they have invested in. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Honestly, and after many ( more than 25 yrs ) using flight simulators, of all sorts, including some professional versions, I really don't think we can compare FSX / P3D /X-Plane with DCS, at leats flight dynamics wise. Only exceptions in my disk are Rise of Flight and IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad, as well as Condorsoaring for the gliders... The rest it's simply outdated ... and incomparable... Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...
King_Hrothgar Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Agreed Jcomm. I haven't touched FSX in a very long time, just too outdated in terms of physics, never mind the code itself. My current flight sims are DCS, BoS/BoM and RoF.
