1. Right now I have a lot trouble with flying the F-15 at high alt, for me it is very hard to get 40k and stay there. What happen to me is that I cant have a low AoA when I get to 40k, and with a high AoA I can barely keep my speed above 200 knots even with burner. I must be doing something wrong because some WW2 fighters can do better than 200 knots at 40k. I wonder what is right way to fly at high alt, maybe not taking any fueltanks?

2. What should I do when a bandits is flying on the deck? I keep losing lock if the bandit is flying very low. It is very frustrating, because it is very likely that I get killed by a silent R27ET while trying to pick up that bandit again. Is to run away the only good option I have?

3. Is there anyway that I can IFF a locked target? What happens to me a lot is that I was HOJ, then my radar burns through and locks the target, which turns out to be a Mig29. Since both sides have Mig29s, it puts me into a very uncomfortable situation, I either shoot and take the risk of teamkilling someone, or unlock to IFF and risk of losing the fight.

4. What is the right way to kill a Su-25T? My missiles have extremly low PK against the Su-25Ts, especially when I am on the Su-25Ts' six.

5. Is the AIM-7 better than AIM-120? My AIM-7s seem to have a better PK than my AIM-120s when fired within 10nm, however both barely hit anything when fired from 15+nm away. Maybe it is because the RWR on russsian fighters cant tell where the AIM-7s are?

1. F-15 needs to be going fast before it gets up there in low earth orbit. Up above 25-30k keep your speed up and your climb rate low and just ease your way to 40k. Otherwise, you end up doing what you're doing.

2. Clutter notch and terrain masking are probably your worry here. Only thing I could suggest is to open up the distance and come back towards the target, in trying to decrease the angle downward your radar is looking. Also, you DO have your antenna tilt controls mapped, right?

3. For the Eagle, I think you can only IFF in TWS mode. Not too familiar with this bird.

4. Dont have much experience killing T-Frogs. I'd say a heater-shot from the six is useless. And if he's low, clutter notch and terrain are probably making things hard. Could always try getting in and making a guns kill?

5. I've never been shot at by sparrow online. I would assume the STT lock would let them know you may be going for something other than a slammer. And indeed, the lack of indication that the missile itself is looking at your target could add some kind of element of surprise. But in reality, ARH should have a better pk than SARH.

EDIT: I need to say what I mean sometimes

Are you confusing INDICATED air speed & your speed over the ground?

Terrain interference/ masking, etc are all normal tactical considerations. Try reducing the azimuth scan to 30`, some modes will keep track better than others. Lots of people talk about the F15's radar is pretty sub- par in LOMAC. I don't fly it much, but when I read about the radar losing lock for NO reason at all- I must say that I agree. What little time I've spent in it- I've seen it happen a lot.

I *think* IFF is only in the RWS / TWS scan mode.. Amazingly enough- the fully functional system was skipped in development. So no- I don't think you get IFF on a target that is already locked.

I don't know why you would have a low Pk on the Tfrog only. He can use the terrain a bit better than a uber-fast fighter to spoof missiles. He does have a IR jamming lamp lodged in his azz- but I can say that I don't see much help from it :P Then again- you don't always know how many IR missiles it screws up that you never see... Maybe the flares & chaff are different/ better/ enhanced in the AFM??

The last one could be any number of things. Too many to list. The AIM 7 is a more predictable- you are guiding it. The slammer has been known to divert from a hard lock and hit a friendly that happened to produce a larger RCS during the transit. Again- this missile could be in need of serious work.

Some may disagree- but sometimes I wonder if that the slammer hits more accurately from freelaunching than it does from a proper lock.. but that's just me...

1. When at 40k feet and flying relatively level, look at your MFD's lower left corner for "G" and then a number. That number is your ground speed and should be very close to your true airspeed. Those WWII fighters were not flying at 200 knots indicated airspeed at 40,000 feet. The figure you see on the HUD tape is indicated airspeed. Also, the figure on the MFD's lower right corner after the "T" shows your indicated airspeed. It should show your true airspeed but ED screwed it up a while back and never fixed it.

2. Really the only good way to keep sight on that bandit is to be low yourself. Good luck hitting him with anything.

3. No. ED obviously has better things to do than to model IFF for the F-15.

4. Any way you can. Throw the kitchen sink at it if you have to.

5. For shots less than 5-6 miles, the 7 appears to be a much better missile. That is completely inaccurate modelling but we have to deal with it.

Thx for replys.

1. Ok, the T-speed on the MFD is infact indicated airspeed, got it. However I wonder are the Target TAS and Closure that being showed on VSD also indicated speeds or true airspeeds?

2. I know reducing the azimuth scan to 30` will provide faster target updates, but what happens to me a lot is that I lose the lock even in a STT, so I dont think to reduce the azimuth scan to 30` will help me. Maybe I should start flying on the deck in the future, hope it helps.

3. So there is no solution, then I have to live with it, just hope the friendly ACs keep their music off.

4. Sorry I should have explained more clearly. The thing is that I find the AIM-120 just doesnt work against the Su-25T. AIM-7s sometimes do hit, but I dont want to waste them on the frog, because I need them in WVR and I can only take 4 of them.

5. IMHO the only advantages that I've seen about the AIM-120 are 1) it has a longer range. 2) the bandit will receive no warning if the AIM-120 is fired in TWS, however these 2 advantages are not important, because 1) an AIM-120 that being fired beyond 15nm almost never hit the target, 2) the russian fighters will know where the AIM-120 is when it goes active so it is not hard to dodge it. So the AIM-7 is better. I hope I can take more of them, but it is a cheat if I change the files of the game to take more AIM-7s, right?

It is a cheat and anyone using modified payloads (that do not resemble RL ones) will be banned and put on public square so the mob can throw some tomatoes at him.

Good to know, however I am already using an A10/Su27/Su33 Weapon Mod v1.1 made by Shepski, it is allowed on your squad's server? If not, sorry for using it, I will uninstall it and not use any mod in the future.

Whe you lock in STT mode the bandit knows it, and is common they get off the radar and you losse lock, use TWS.

you always can ask for it, i do, and avoid Tks

The 120 can do kills at more range if fired in TWS, and is hard to dodge because if you guide it in TWS (or STT) it goes active a 1 or 2 seconds of bandit. if u losse lock before secure time, they get advice and have more time to dodge it.

Hey guard are you coming over from Il-2, i know and fly with a guard from the forums there and on warclouds, is this you mate. This site i sent you is great to learn the radar better, its in french so just simply go to Alta vista and use Babelfish to translate it into english and your golden, hope this helps you with radar uses.

Yeah, I am the Guard flying on Warclouds, and what is your callsign on warclouds?

Hello Guard i thought that was you, welcome. This is DEY_BLACK_USA from the DEY Squad, this is also my callsign online for lockon. Let me know if you need some answers and i will try to help you out as much as possible, take care.

Hi, Black, it is really nice to see a member of the Warclouds community.

Thx for the info on that french website, however I am not totally unfamiliar with the radar thing. I did spend some time in F4AF and I have read the long manual many times and I understand things like TWS and RWS. I even did an experiment about the princip of the radar in the college labor a few weeks ago. What I dont understand are weird things that happen online, which I havent seen in F4AF or read on any manuals.

For example: Sometimes I have trouble with locking the bandits even they are only 20 nms away. I hit the "tab" key, the radar trys to lock and somehow shows the information of the target for like half a second, then it goes back to RWS. In other situations, I suddenly lose a lock even in a look up STT. I wonder is there anyway to deal with these problems. I need a solution badly because I am totaly in despair when flying on the vvs504 server. I dont have much problem with getting shot down many times but having huge difficulty in shooting back makes me feel terrible.

Hey Guard good to see you here. First problem you have could be several reasons: 1) The person could be using ground clutter (mountains, terrain, etc) to not let you lock him or he could be at a different alltitude than what you have your radar set to, sometimes just a little off can really affect your lock capabilities or he could be switching on and off the ECM rapidly, noob thing to do be sure. I sometimes have the same problem so it's not just you. 2) If you are loosing a lock all together they could be beaming you ( Beaming is changing your course so that the radar's computer confuses your speed with the apparent speed of all the objects it's detecting on the ground. The hoped for result is the radar filters you out along with all the other ground returns.) you want to fly so the enemy is on your 3 or 9 o clock position or 90 degrees. They also could be changing alltitude very rapidly causing you too loose lock. Here is some old questions and answers about beaming and other things that can be useful, this is from an older patch of course, but, still usefull.http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/38610606/m/247109315

Go down to 'how to fight and fly'.

Theres F-pole tactics and beaming and many others, let me know how your doing.

Posted

I find beaming very unuseful, because I will lose the lock if I try to put the bandit on my 3 or 9, but the banidt will be able to lock me again if I am not doing a perfect beaming, or eve worse, he got me locked in the EOS. This tactic only works if my missiles can hit that bandit after I beam, which never happens. If I use this tactic online, I will be totally defensive, and have to run if I dont want to die.
