I have tried the instant actions labeled easy (mostly the first one). For me it isn't easy. The two first transports usually pose no problems. I take them out with the gun. The next patrol is a little more tricky. I need several passes since there are so many units. I use rockets and also need the gun. My problem here is that I might run out of ammo. It's also very repetitive to have to do this every time I try this action mission.

The bridge I usually hit with GBU 38 bomb and the problem here is that I very often get shoot at so that I can't finish the tasks ahead.

Next task with the tanks I have succeeded taking out one with a GBU 12 bomb and that is only one tank. I also tried with Maverick missiles and find it har to move the aiming cross over a tank with the plane also moving.

How do you do and how far have you get ? Can you give some advice ?

Make a strafe pass and take out the trucks. Have your wingman engage infantry with guns. That should leave you with plenty of ammo.

Fly high. ;)

But seriously, the air defenses in the first Instant Action mission have a very limited range, and you can simply fly above their max engagement range. If you stay roughly above 10,000 ft you should be good, and if you add another 6,000 ft there's just no way they could hit you.

In order to find and engage targets, use the TGP. The waypoints are spot-on, so if you slave the TGP to steerpoint, it's looking almost exactly at the enemy units. You can pick them one by one from 16,000 ft or even higher, dropping GBUs on them or using Mavericks.

Also, make good use of your wingman. I find it works best to micro-manage them. To kill the tanks at WP4 (IIRC), I'd put my TGP in that area and then order him to Engage with... armor... with Mavericks (from default).

As long as you climb before reaching the bridge, you're really safe in this mission and can take all the time you need. In this regard, I think it's a really good training mission because it requires you to make good use of your weapons and your wingman.

Oh, and the targets at WP2... I prefer to drop a JDAM right in the middle of the soldiers, that should take care of them. Then mop up remaining vehicles with the gun. Much faster than trying to kill all those guys with rockets and Combat Mix ammo.

It sounds like you need more practice with mavericks. A maverick can also take out a bridge. Something that a lot of new pilots don't realize is that once you slew your maverick over to a target....

Ex:

1) Find target in TGP and make it SPI

2) Take maverick and china hat forward long to slave to SPI

3) TMS up short to lock the target. (DONT SLEW) You may have to hit TMS up short a few times to get the crosshairs to lock after a slave to SPI

That trick will help you lock targets so much easier. A mission with a wingman... use the wingman. You can't kill everything on your own.

If you want to do some of my training missions and get some instruction... just let me know. See my signature for details.

The advice to fly high at the bridge did work. But using a bomb on the patrol was very ineffective took out one vehicle and nothing more.

Also after taking out the bridge from above 10000 ft I then had problems finding the tanks after that. Is not the targets visible with red labels unless you stay below a certain altitude ?

Were weapon effects changed with a recent patch? I think I last flew the mission in 1.2 and a single GBU-38 took care of all the Infantry at waypoint 2 so that I only had to destroy one or two remaining vehicles with the gun.

Like I said, try to use the TGP. Check the manual and find some good video tutorials on Youtube - if you learn to make good use of the TGP and all other sensors, you don't need labels.
