So....

I Ask the Ground Crew to disconnect Ground power and he does. Then I taxi away and he yells"HEY WHERE ARE YA GOING?"

What am I doing wrong?

Chocks?

Remember...

Crew Chiefs are slow sloth like creatures that live in multi colored step trucks that roam the flight line. It take them time to get up out of their nest...usually made under a wing in the shade...lope over to the Ground power cable and "Pull the Plug"./

We have a few on here. Ask them. They'll tell ya...

<BSEG>

Seriously, I usually preflight and start on Ground power then as soon as I get engines running, I ask for it to be disconnected. By the time I complete the Before Taxi Check, its not an issue. (There IS a delay though so be aware)

Hopefully this will be fixed with ATC.

Funny, I guess because in the real world when my CREW CHIEF told me "Disconnected" I assumed that it was like real world and instant. This sim is really fantastic, thanks for your feedback.

I generally use the battery to start power. What is the first few steps when you use ground power?

Realistically we never launch an A-10 with a generator hooked up to it.

I never use ground power, is there a specific reason for not using the battery?

We use ground power so We dont have to listen to the APU during preflight. With the exception of the INS we can have preflight done in less than 2-3 minutes. Once the INS is aligned it takes another minute or two to load waypoints. When lead is complete he calls for engine start and waits. When Two is ready to start he fires up the APU signaling lead he's ready to go. Once engines are running I call for ground power off and finish up before taxi checklist.

No, we are just usually in the front row seat when the thing you said you fixed fails to adhere to the proposed remedy.....

Wait...10 hours ago read that totally different than now...

Are you saying realisticly you never launch a sortie using ground power prior to engine start?

Even on the R-Models with the good APUs we'd use a Hobart or -60for power until prior to start engines or unless we needed heat.

It depends on the aircraft. On F-16 (Block 25, 30, 40 or 42 in the USAF), never. Not in Luke, Osan, Aviano, Kunsan etc.

On the F-117, depends on the missions and equipment.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

:D:smartass:

It always works when we check them...CND (could not duplicate). While working F-16, many discrepancies could have been repaired by: "R² side stick actuator". :joystick:

My instructor in "fundies", Sheppard AFB, circa 1997, always said;

It takes a college degree in underwater basket weaving to break them and a G.E.D. to fix them.

We had a maintenance request once that said "relief tube too short". Seat mech went out and found that the relief tube was just wrapped around a bolt. On the Maintenance Action Form he put "CND, checks 4.0 with enlisted c**k. LOL! Maintenance Chief had to leave the room several times to laugh while chewing the guy out.

EDIT: Context - relief tube is attached to the relief horn, which you piss in.

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

HaHa! good stuff guys!

I once did a post flight walkaround and found several constant hydraulic drips coming from the right main landing gear doors.

We had landed at a small out-station with no maintenance support. When I called maintenance back at home base, the mechanic stated, "Are you sure there is a problem? We are gonna have to cancel your next flight and dead head a mechanic out there on the next flight!?!"

Yep, sorry, this is for realzz

We had to wait several hours for the next flight. Once it landed and the people deplaned, I see the mechanic get off the aircraft and walk very angrily over to my aircraft, and without talking to me, sat down under the wheel well and manually opened the gear doors.

What happened next was a pleasure, the mechanic was bathed in hydraulic fluid like the old movie Flash Dance.

Apparently a main hydraulic line had burst and then proceeded to drain all the fluid onto the closed gear doors.

Poor guy was covered head to toe in hydraulic fluid. thank goodness it wasn't Skydrol.

Here's a hilarious video about the pilot/mechanic relationship...careful, there is strong language

That is correct, an APU no start and the pilot is stepping to the spare.

Is it because APU start on the ground basically reveals any APU malfunction, and makes sure the APU will function later in the air, if and when it is really desperatly needed in an emergency, right?
