CHDT Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Old soldiers never die: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3485981/Vintage-attack-planes-used-Vietnam-brought-retirement-help-special-forces-defeat-ISIS-Iraq.html http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/03/09/why-is-america-using-these-antique-planes-to-fight-isis.html I would love to see some pics of these two Broncos in Syria. But I can't find any. PS: a Bronco in DCS would be great !!!
CHDT Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 These two ones perhaps ? Or these ones ? https://thaimilitaryandasianregion.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/amgnd4yeyss6xf6yfhb6.jpg
Vampyre Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 My money is on them being the two Combat Dragon II OV-10G+'s that were the subject of several articles back in 2013... and yes a DCS:OV-10 Bronco needs to be a thing. Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills. probad Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) @DCS: Bronco: infantry and other ground units are going to need their radar FCS removed first :P This is a real COIN plane and we'd be better off with something like this + F-35 than clinging to the A-10s. Edited March 10, 2016 by probad
King_Hrothgar Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I've been thinking for a while that the A-29 would make a good A-10 replacement. Yes, it is less capable, but it's also cheaper. An A-10 is more than a little overkill for ISIS and similar foes anyways.

I still hold out hope for an improved OV-10G+ as the current one has more going for it than a Super Tuc... seven weapons stations, cargo/paradrop capability, twin engines and it is a 100% US design which will, legally, make it easier to get into service. Milli Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 During the last few years when I've been wandering around the aircraft at Fairford RIAT airshow in the UK, I come across the Textron AirLand Scorpion. I automatically think of the A-10 everytime I see it. http://www.scorpionjet.com/aircraft-features/ Cheap and cheerful.
javelina1 Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 Cool, and still using the Garrett Turbine Engines! (Many years ago, I worked for GTEC - before it all eventually rolled up into Honeywell). Lucas_From_Hell Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Interesting. :) The Super Tucano still seems like a more viable option by most means, but whatever the case this just shows how the slow and well-equipped attack aircraft concept remains a great battlefield solution. I'm curious to see how they perform.
pepin1234 Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) I like the Bronco, more than Super Tucano. 6 infantry soldiers at this speed in emergency is faster than Helicopters. Is a good way to save money, why not. Edited March 13, 2016 by pepin1234 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
CHDT Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 Also two engines: ++++++++++++++++++++ My uncle flew these to drop herbicide on cocaine fields in Colombia. They were shot at constantly and when they switched to single engine aircraft he noped the **** out as he had come back with one engine many times. Cool aircraft though. ++++++++++++++++++++

Rangi Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Wow, they really botched that nose job. Great aircraft and would love to see a dcs version one day. PC: 6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor.
gear_monkey Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I love the Bronco. If you guys want a great experience, get the OV-10 Bronco for FSX. It is spectacular and was developed with real operators so the engines, performance, and flight model are top notch. I love it. http://en.shop.aerosoft.com/eshop.php?action=article_detail&s_supplier_aid=12094&s_design=DEFAULT&shopfilter_category=Flight+Simulation&s_language=english Win 10 64bit; 32 GB DDR4 3200 Ram; ASUS MoBo; 1TB SSD;Intel i7 8700K; GTX 1080ti 11GB; Thrustmaster Warthog;Odyssey + VR
