I would really like to see the key settings in controls to be expanded / improved.

For instance it is impossible currently to set up a 3-way switch to control Route / Off / Descent mode.

I have seen edits of the .lua files to get around it (perhaps not for that specific one), but I still feel it's a shame that we do not have this by default.

It would be great if we could get for instance:

-Landing Gear Toggle

-Landing Gear Up

-Landing Gear Down

This would suit everybody's needs.

I'm pretty sure this isn't only the case for the KA-50.

I agree, It would also be nice to have:

Coms selector; left - right (or up down, depends on your point of view)

Engine; Anti ice - off - dust protection (or just an up - down bind)

Weapon Salvo; low - medium - high

Flare; left - both - right

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!.

They are all there you just have to add a custom key command. I had all the switches you talk about mapped in a KA50 pit I built years ago. What you need a a keyboard emulator that you can program for a up and down command. most DX joy button programmers only program a signal on send and no off signal. If you want some help let me know I can point you in the right direction.

You can see the flair box on the right.

I have the Route/off/Descent switch on a hat on my X55. It permits the three way function by having Route on (up press) Off (either up or down press) Descent (down press).

I understand what you mean about the three way though. However, I have no switches on the X55 that stay in either an up (on) or down (off) position, like on the actual aircraft, so its a moot point for me.

The bottom line is that I get the three way functionality from a hat working as a two way.:)

I tried following these steps, but my Throttle - Hotas Warthog.lua looks completely different.

I guess some things have changed since JesseJames' post.

Yes, at the moment I also use a work around for all these switches with the Thrustmaster software and it works reliably... very happy with it.

However, very soon I am going to end up with a lot of modules I want to fly in a sitting, lets say a quick kick around in the spitfire and perhaps a quickie in the 109. Then I will get down to serious business and jump into the gazelle for some missions. Then I will quickly keep up my skills in the HIP and kamov before moving onto learning the HIND.

It would be nice and convenient to just program all my Hotas and switches in game and per module so that I can change airframes quickly. The KA-50 lacks this ability due to its weak key bindings, unless I am willing to compromise on some critical switches.. but why?

Hey f4l0,

Thanks for that. Could you briefly describe how to use these?

Never mind, I've got it sorted now. It's not perfect yet, but a whole lot better than the default.

I'm already very pleased that I don't have to disable route mode by enabling it a second time.

Thanks, f4l0!

This is most annoying in DCS, that unhappy button mapping that either forces you to study LUA and program or take it as it is.

They should implement a method that allows you to use a HOTAS how it is ment to be, cant be that hard to see and understand, they have the same gear as we have and have the same pretty stupid " you gotta flick TWICE" issue" !!!!

I do not understand this has not been done and corrected to the customers needs and wishes as it is a primary interface on how you interfere with DCS and your Simulation.

It:s like BMW will not allow you use the light switch as usual anymore....NO NO,, you gotta turn it on twice to turn it off...CMON ?

It woukd be so nice to have and well worth the effort for ED as most players will appreciate this as a very welcome fix or smoother :)

Addendum:

With all the latest and frequent patches I am also staying Vanilla on all 3 installations. I am not modding any line until it got unified again as it is just too much time and effort involved that I just dont have. DCS needs lots of maint. when being patched in some scenarios ( redo controls for all modules from scratch takes hours ).

Doing that over and over again is somewhat grrrrr but what u wanna do ?? for sure not add extra work by heavy scripting that you have to redo too every patch I guess.

sigh....

Thing is that for different folks "HOTAS" can be:

Warthog with 2/3 positions toggle/latched switches.

X-55 with 2 position momentary switches.

(Ancient) CH with only momentary press buttons...
