Who is rubbing people's noses in anything?

Stang asked how VR ran in DCS.

I gave him a single sentence saying it was good on a GTX980 and suddenly I'm hauled over the coals by folks trying to convince me that I'm not actually having a good experience.

I am so over these forums, it's completely pointless contributing anything here.

I guess you guys all think the TM Warthog is the worst stick ever as well??? :D

EDIT: actually I've only got myself to blame. I was in a good mood and thought the general level of whining had fallen enough to take a few people off my ignore list.

Wrong.

Ignore list is back on overdrive.

It's been my fault and I'm genuinely sorry for making you feel bad.

I was so glad when ED released the new engine with 1.5 and saw that the old performance problem was gone that I couldn't bear seeing it come back again since 1.5.3. This thing keeps me very frustrated and tetchy.

So finally I have my Rift and to my surprise my "not up to the task" computer is giving me high enough FPS with 1.5

The first I tried was 1.5.2 and it turned out to have Vive support already. Quite acceptable fps, though it depends on the module.

Then I tried 1.5.3 but with the 1.5.2 visibility values thanks to the lua files provided by Mustang:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2685487&postcount=36

and it's pretty much the same experience than with 1.5.2.

So, anybody struggling to fly 1.5.3 in VR with acceptable fps may try those lua files.

Oculus' Software nags me the entire time about how I dont meet VR Specs.

They dont even test the systems, they have a database file, if it detects specific hardware on their "blacklist", then it will nag you about "you dont meet requirements",

99% of everything AMD is on their Blacklist except 390x/Fury+.

Well, to be fair, that's a more or less accurate evaluation when it comes to AMD CPUs. They come nowhere near to the Intel Core family in gaming performance.

I didn't mean to be sarcastic with the "not up to the task computer" comment. It really is pretty outdated. But I'm happy I still will be able to have some quality time with DCS in VR.

And this summer, new computer.

I have no Issues w/ My AMD CPUs at stock or overclocked specs.

(FX8350, FX8320, FX8150[ok the 8150 kinda has issues])

GPU's problems I have arent performance, but HDMI/DisplayPort Spec, since My GPU's Dont HAVE an HDMI PORT I tried using MiniDP->HDMI which dont work because the voltage range required by OR is above HDMI Spec, which is why alot of people are having issues with their 970s etc.

I had to resort to using a slightly lower spec GPU, and even then it does the job fine.

Polaris 10/11 and Zen are Out this Summer/Fall.

Zen 8 Core FX will have 2x the Performance of a Stock FX 8350 and run on 90w, and have single threaded performance just shy of skylake (less than 3%), and SMT so 16 Threads capable.

Im also looking at their 16 /32Core (32/64Thread) Server Chips for my server stack.

Polaris 10 Will be cheap and perform on the level of the 390x+, There's no info, but AMD's NDA is no where near lifted, Everyone will have to wait till the 1st/June and Later. (June29th)

Regardless,

This Winter I'll be going from FX8350 @ 5+GHz using 210w and 3x Lightings in XFire using about 980w

To Zen 8 Core 16T w/ nearly Double the Performance (170% over a FX9590 @5GHz/ 200% over qa FX8350), and a Polaris 10 Xfire or Single Vega 10 GPU

So More Performance on both CPU and GPUs while dropping from 1190w to 390-450w Load.

Side note, I dont run 3 Lightnings on a 850w PSU, only 1 Runs off the 850, the other 2 run off a separate 800w PSU using a PSU 8 16 Pin Split Cable to control both PSUs)

stupid question, why not just buy a DP compatible monitor? It's a better standard, just not as established in the marketplace.

My Monitors Run Fine on Display Ports, All 5 of Them..

it's the OR that doesnt

Can anyone help me out, Oculus support is basically nonexistent.

The OR Store says I have a firmware update for the sensor. I click on it and nothing happens, it acts like it DL's and then it quits the store, then reopens itself and the update is still there. I can't play any games and when I try DCS I only have 4 DoF, when I move side to side or in and out nothing happens.

$599 paperweight so far.

Reboot Your PC, Windows Will install Driver when windows loads up, you'll get a balloon saying installing and done.

I had that issue when 1.4 came out a week or so ago.

Reddit user who got 1080 reports: "I can run DCS with high settings now. The camera is always wrong when I get in a plane, I use the view reset key RShift-Num5 to sort it out."

"I just found the framerate display in the game and no matter what settings you have it on the framerate fluctuates wildly, from 33-90, you can be looking forward at 90fps, look out of side window and it plummets to 33 or 45 - I couldn't discern a pattern. Both my CPU and GPU weren't breaking a sweat, running at about 35%, the framebuffer was maybe about 2GB.

I don't know if there are known issues with the engine for DCS, but it seems very odd to me."

That just shows that no matter how much muscle you throw at it, the engine is fundamentally incapable of rendering complex scenes at a high framerate. My bet is on DirectX.

While I would agree, ripping out the engine while the car is running is hard to do. 2.0 is a good start, and I'm sure more is coming.

Also, Moore's law, and raw power never hurt anyone! :)

My driver did the same thing, I ended up unplugging a few times and rebooting and eventually it updated.

Just got my Rift during the week and was majorly looking forward to trying DCS, DCS 2 completely hangs my PC every time I try and fly a second mission or make a change to the graphics settings, 1.5 is very stable but so far have only found two cockpits that get anywhere near 90 fps, the big Russian helicopter and the A10, the rest are pretty much unplayable, but choose an external camera even one showing the plane and the fps shoots up to 90, seems some of the cockpits are very badly optimised, hope it gets sorted because apart from the frame rates the experience is unbelievable, or should that be believable ? I'm running a 1070 and some sort of i5 with 16 gigs of memory.

It's just not quite there yet..

I am running a Titan XP (the new Titan with Pascal) and I can't maintain 90FPS with ALL settings set to low. The card doesn't blink hardly with the settings maxed out on Pcars, only if I take the MSAA up to 6x and ALL the settings on ultra will it slow it, at 4x and ultra it is smooth sailing.

Same with Prepar3D flight sim, I can virtually max it out.

Turning on the camera, or the mirrors, drops the FPS significantly in DCS and provides stutter. It's fun to fly around, but you can bring up the oculus rift toolkit performance hud and you will see it drops frames faster then m&m can spit out the words to rap god. :) Hopefully they will tune/optimize and look into Vulkan or Directx 12.

Posted

Old post, but, the FPS counter in games won't reflect the actual oculus FPS. You need to download the oculus toolkit and enable performance hud. It will be annoying, and in your way, but it is very accurate in the true FPS and dropped frames (which will be many in DCS)

careful with the oculus toolkit...there were some serious issues reported with version 1.7 don't know if problem was addressed by oculus

My stuttering issues seem to have largely sorted themselves out, it could be that fact I'm using that Intel thing that uses a small SSD to store frequently used files so the PC can access them quickly and I've been playing nothing but DCS lately! Either way, the fps issue has faded far into the distance as I am totally lost if the whole experience, :)
