MA_Goblin Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 (edited) Found this interesting tool, it's not finished yet but I really want one :) http://www.shapertools.com/#homepage Edited May 15, 2016 by hakjar 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] _____________Semper paratus, In hoc signo vinces________________ PC: Intel i7-8700K (4.9 GHz), Aorus Ultra Gaming Z370 MB, Gigabyte RTX 3080, 32 GB DDR3 (3,2 GHz), Samsung EVO 860 M.2 500 GB SSD + Samsung 960 M.2 250 GB SSD Gaming: Virpil T-50 CM2, TM WH Throttle, Crosswind pedals, HP Reverb
dux Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 (edited) What a great idea! It acts more like digital jig than a conventional CNC router. These smart tools are the future but I'm sure they won't be cheap. Ragtop Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Very interesting. It's a shame that like all startups these days, they're extremely non commital and vague about their project. No projected price and no idea when its coming out other than 'This year'. If it's accurate enough to engrave text on acrylic panels, and broad enough to cut out the box work, then I could be tempted. 476th vFG Alumni
dux Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 (edited) At least this start-up has employees who seem to know what they are doing and have something to show for it. Even if Shaper Tools does cease to exist I'm sure the larger tool manufacturers like Makita, Bosch and possibly Festool will try something similar in the near future. I can see this product being used by pitbuilders and hobbyists alike in addition to schools and contractors as a cheaper and smaller alternative to CNC routers. This emerging market is very interesting but unfortunately as with most emerging technologies, it will take a long time for the price to come down. :( Edited May 16, 2016 by dux [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] [TABLE]PC Specs i7-4790k GTX 970 MSI Z97 Gaming 5 24 GB RAM Samsung 850 Evo 240GB SSD [/TABLE] [TABLE]Equipment Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog CH Pro Pedals 3D Printed TrackIR[/TABLE]
agrasyuk Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Sorry, I can't see It. To me this looks like all the gimmicky "as seen on TV " tools. Maybe unlike them this tool will actually work but I already can think of several reasons why it is far far from "perfect". Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
Mr_Burns Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 I would be interested to see what size it could do, imagine if it could image and know its location on a 2400x1200 MDF board to allow one small machine to CNC a whole Flims Pit.
MA_Goblin Posted May 16, 2016 Author Posted May 16, 2016 @Mr Burns: Yes it can :D [ame] [/ame] [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] _____________Semper paratus, In hoc signo vinces________________ PC: Intel i7-8700K (4.9 GHz), Aorus Ultra Gaming Z370 MB, Gigabyte RTX 3080, 32 GB DDR3 (3,2 GHz), Samsung EVO 860 M.2 500 GB SSD + Samsung 960 M.2 250 GB SSD Gaming: Virpil T-50 CM2, TM WH Throttle, Crosswind pedals, HP Reverb
fbfan64 Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Don't know if I would call it perfect but it is interesting. I wonder how good it is engraving small text like we use on aircraft control panels. Of course if the price is low enough it could be more interesting. My Simpit Project
