Tonedogg Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Hi, folks just thought I'd post this, an interesting read about the gazelle especially the bit about handling. [ame]http://www.mwhelicopters.co.uk/File/UndiscoveredGem.pdf[/ame]
BronzeYardNo11 Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 It always makes me wonder if Belsimtek's huey FM is correct, being stupidly easy-to-fly. (I love it tho) If the Gazelle IRL is "easy-to-fly" I can't imagine how hard an R22 or 300c must be... ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give OH-6 ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
jcbak Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 I don't believe the Gazelle is any more difficult than the Huey. Both are a challenge at first. After some practice they both become a lot easier to handle. From what I've read, the DCS Huey is pretty realistic. Keep in mind, the US Army was training kids that were barely older than teenagers to fly them. (I love it tho)I Guess that's the realization after hours of practice. Tonedogg Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 you would think if it was designed for "ham fisted students" it would be less twitchy or am i reading it wrong
Ligeti Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 Good article thanks. Interesting that the civvie versions didn't have SAS and that the author didn't have a problem flying without it.
BronzeYardNo11 Posted May 31, 2016 Posted May 31, 2016 you would think if it was designed for "ham fisted students" it would be less twitchy or am i reading it wrong I would think the same, but maybe the author means that the heli can take a lot of abuse? idk. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give OH-6 ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ

Rogue Trooper Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Thanks for the link Nichts. A very nice read I think the Ham fisted quote regards the trainee that "just don’t got it" or is flying for the first time in a chopper… the machine needs to survive those fellas too as well as the fellas that make it, but without doubt there is a fight to get there (extreme movements). Nice to see that the author was originally trained to fly choppers on the Gazelle…. Sweet. She does accelerate fast and she climbs fast, Yup, the Polychops Gazelle gets this right. “Tiny pedal input on the turn”… yeah this sounds very familiar and it is compounded by the quick acceleration / deceleration and fast climb dictated by the nose…. Certainly not what I got used to with the current DCS medium weights. A very interesting article about light weight choppers. I really want one of these choppers.... really.
