Will DCS always be an exclusive flight sim platform?

Sorry if that was already somewhere answered and I have not found it:

I understand that currently DCS is only a platform for flight simulators but any chance that later also naval vessels (ships, submarines) may be an option ?

Apart from SteelBeasts I do not know of any other engine, which is currently in active development for military simulations...

You can already command ground vehicles. Not at steel beasts level, but it's slowly progressing.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Well there is potential for naval counterparts to be operated in DCS, it definitely would not be something that would be simple to implement and would take time and resources, which currently ED is using to update their game engine, aircraft and add maps. So in the long run I could see it being a possibility, but definitely not any time soon. As stated above, Combined Arms is available, but its sim level is of a simple standard and many aspect of ground combat are not implemented such as, for example use of concealment and bushes. CA is being improved upon but not at a rapid pace. If you go checkout their Roadmap( http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=116893 ) you will see that they have an M1A2 Abrams in development, but it is currently on hold.

TL;DR It could happen, but not for a long time, but work is being made for expansions outside of the fight sim department for this game in one form or another.

Cheers mate, have a good one.

It's actually been said that its within scope of the platform, there was some investigation on tanks by ED, they looked for and found a person to supply information on a specific tank, on its own i guess it proves nothing, but you need to see where the engine development comes before that logically to provide the right level of detail at ground level that they are just now achieving. I'm sure they woudl do everythiung given enough time, and I bet they'd love a time machine too.

As Wags says,"Everything is subject to change". With that being said, yeah maybe DCS can be more than a flight sim in the future, but but personally, I hope not.

Mission: "To intercept and destroy aircraft and airborne missiles in all weather conditions in order to establish and maintain air superiority in a designated area. To deliver air-to-ground ordnance on time in any weather condition. And to provide tactical reconaissance imagery" - F-14 Tomcat Roll Call

The problem is very few vehicles operate with only one occupant. You'd need 3-5 players to man a tank.

This is something that can be addressed, however. LNS' F-14 is a good example.

What REALLY needs to be addressed is the awful ground physics present in DCS.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

Just wait that 2.5 gets out with a new Caucasus map.

Wags hinted that team went little overboard with the features to improve that map as free update for us.

So what I am waiting, based to previous hints, is that we get more ground clutter like bushes and different kind trees and rocks etc. And that terrain mesh gets far more accurate, especially for a ground units operation and for helicopters.

So in future, we shouldn't have anymore a billiard table with few buildings and cardboard trees, but far more strategic and tactical combat supportive terrain that makes aircraft pilots to fear ground hostiles.

And maybe we see the needed change that fighter pilots can't anymore on servers to fly low without getting shot down quickly and effectively, and that is left for future aircrafts (or AI) with SEAD capabilities.

Isn't the entire title of this game DCS World: Air - Sea - Land Combat? So yeah, I'm pretty sure there will be ship and tank modules in the future.
